The Trustees present this, the organisation’s first, report and financial statements for the period 01 April 2020 to 31 March 2021. The financial statements are prepared as receipts and payments accounts, in accordance with section 133 of the Charities Act 2011. ## **Our purposes and activities** The charitable purposes of Adopt a Furry Friends are: - For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of animals on the island of Koh Phangan, Thailand in need of care and attention, and in particular to provide rescue homes or other facilities for the reception, care and treatment of such animals. - To promote humane behaviour towards animals on the island of Koh Phangan, Thailand by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for animals which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage, and to educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals. ## **Public benefit** The Trustees have reviewed the activity plans of Adopt a Furry Friend, and confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit in doing so. The Trustees have monitored the progress made by the organisation in meeting its charitable purposes and confirm that all the activities of the charity, described in the present report, were undertaken in pursuit of these purposes. ## **Fundraising practice** Adopt a Furry Friend’s fundraising activities were undertaken by the organisation’s volunteers. Specifically, the organisation did not contract any commercial participators or professional fundraisers to solicit donations on its behalf. ## **Contributions of volunteers** The operation of Adopt a Furry Friend is undertaken entirely by volunteers, to whom we offer our sincere thanks. We also offer our gratitude to the many people that support our work by offering temporary foster homes to the puppies under our care. This allows us valuable time during which we can conduct our local outreach efforts and find the puppies permanent homes. ## **ADOPT A FURRY FRIEND STATEMENT OF RECEIPTS AND PAYMENTS For the period 01 April 2020 to 31 March 2021** ## **Achievements** During this period we were delighted to rehome 62 dogs and 9 cats, supported through our system which records and monitors animal numbers. A significant number of street dogs now have owners, and enjoy improved health and a better quality of life. By promoting education in our community, Adopt a Furry Friend helps people to understand the humane and legal way to control the overpopulation of roaming animals. We encourage locals to contact us when they find a pregnant animal or a litter of puppies near their homes. We then step in to spay and neuter the animals and coordinate the adoption of those puppies. During the reporting period the vast majority of adoptions were organized online and we were able to run a stall at the local Saturday market 4 times, in May and in June 2020 and two times in March 2021 where we could reach out the local community. The restrictions imposed by the government in response of the global pandemic this year made more difficult to be present more often at the local market. However many people have told us how grateful they are for the opportunity to adopt a healthy animal, already vaccinated and neutered. Thailand is considered a high risk rabies country and rabies is a very dangerous disease also affecting the human population. Adopt A Furry Friend gives its contribution in sustaining the herd immunity by vaccinating against rabies whenever possible. The vaccination against rabies is given to all puppies and kitten if at least of the age of 3 months and to all adult dogs and cats that are neutered at the day of the surgery. Alongside these projects, we are working together with another local organisation that helps stray dogs by providing them medical assistance. Our role is to prevent healthy puppies from being introduced into the local veterinary clinic, where they can get easily sick. Instead, we organise foster homes for the puppies, so that they have a safe environment in which to live until we can find them a new family. ## **ADOPT A FURRY FRIEND STATEMENT OF RECEIPTS AND PAYMENTS For the period 01 April 2020 to 31 March 2021** ## **Financial review of the period** During this reporting period, Adopt a Furry Friend was delighted to receive donations totalling £954 . We offer our sincere thanks to the generous individuals who contributed to our cause. No fundraising events have been organized during this reporting period, where the challenges of a global pandemic imposed restrictions that made difficult to organize such events. Adopt a Furry Friend works hard to ensure that the highest possible proportion of our donations goes directly towards helping the animals who come into our care. Because of this, we have no fundraising or governance costs. All expenditure relates directly to charitable activities. Our activities are delivered entirely by volunteers. During this period a bungalow has been rented with the purpose of conducting charity work and hosting volunteers. The chart on the right shows the breakdown of our spending during this reporting period. Our total costs for the period totalled £1,819. The higher expenses in this period is related to the rent of the bungalow/office. The remaining £803 will ensure we can deliver continuity service and provide ongoing support to the animals under our care (see Reserves Policy, below). **----- Start of picture text -----**

Above: Analysis of charitable expenditure (see Statement of payments and receipts) ## **Reserves policy** Adopt a Furry Friend aims to hold a free reserves balance (that is, unrestricted reserves not invested in fixed assets or designated for specific purposes) at a level which can finance a target range of six to twelve months’ full operational costs. This is intended to provide a buffer which will ensure the smooth running of our activities in the event that we receive fewer donations. At 31 March 2020, Adopt a Furry Friend held £803 free unrestricted reserves, the equivalent of just under 6 months’ operational costs. ## **Going concern** The trustees review the unrestricted reserves balance and the current financial records at each board meeting, and consider that Adopt a Furry Friend is a going concern. It is governed by its Constitution. ## **Appointment of Trustees** As set out in the Constitution, Trustees are appointed for a term of 2 years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of Adopt a Furry Friend. ## **Trustee induction and training** New Trustees are provided with an induction package, including: - A copy of the current version of the Constitution; and - A copy of the organisation’s latest Trustees’ Annual Report and statement of accounts. Upon joining Trustees receive induction briefings from the other Board members. ## **Organisation** The Board of Trustees, which has 3 members, administers the organisation. Any Trustee may call a meeting of the Trustees. Subject to that, the Trustees shall decide how their meetings are to be called, and what notice is required. ## **Related parties and co-operation with other organisations** None of our Trustees received remuneration or other benefit from their work with Adopt a Furry Friend. Any connection between a Trustee of Adopt a Furry Friend with an individual, company or organisation with which Adopt a Furry Friend is conducting a relationship in the course of its activities must be disclosed to the full board of Trustees. Adopt a Furry Friends regularly coordinates with another local no profit organisation, PACS, (Phangan Animal Care for Strays), a nursing hospital that provides medical treatment to stray dogs and cats in the island of Koh Phangan, Thailand. The economic contribution of general volunteers is not recognised in the accounts. ## **c) Fund accounting** Unrestricted funds are available to spend on activities that further any of the purposes of Adopt a Furry Friend. ## **d) Expenditure** Expenditure is recognised when it is paid. ## **e) Cash at bank and in hand** Cash at bank and cash in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account. ## **f) Foreign currencies** Transactions in foreign currencies are recorded at the rate ruling at the date of the transaction. Monetary assets denominated in foreign currencies are translated at the rate of exchange ruling at the end of the accounting period.
