Objectives, activitios. achievements. perfomiance and public benefit
The objects are, to advance the understanding andlor treatment of Neurological diseases by making grants lo the
UCL Institute of Neurology and, potentially, to other similarly well established cenlres for neurological disease
research.
In planning our activities for the year, we have taken into account the Charity Commission's guidance on public
benefit al our trustee meetings.
Over 4 million people in the UK are living with a neurodegeneralive disease. More people are likely to die from
neurological disease than from Cancer or Heart Disease yel neurological research Is currently much less well
funded. NRT'S objective is to provide start-up finance for practical neurological research in less well fLJnded
areas. All NRT costs are personally mel by the Trustees which means that 100,10 of any donation goes directly
into practical research.
Achlevements and performance
The Trustees are delighted that NRT has raised £121,174 during the year from a combination of grants and
donations. This has again come from a variety of grants and donations. The Trustees are particulady grateful
to the Sir John Fisher Foundation for their continued support.
During the year NRT donated £55,000 to assist The National Brain Appeal in appointing a consultant level
neurologist to coordinate and undertake specific aspects of neurological research. The NRT also donated
£56,934 to University College London towards the development of genetic therapies.
Financial review
The net income for the year was £9,240 12020.. Net income of £56,880) as shown in the receipts and payments
account on page 5.
All expenses and overheads continue to be met by the Trustees.
Cash Is held by NRT lo cover grants made or expected to be made lo approved projects. Further projects are
approved as and when the Trustees are confident they will have sufficient funds to support those projects. As at
31 December 2021 cash held was £157,315.
Although the unrestricted funds were in deficit at the year end, further donations have been received after date
to increase the level of reserves held.
Plans for future periods
Going forward the charity will aim to increase income generation year on year. The trustees look forward lo
onb'nuing their support for approved projects and to starting new projects as funding allows.
