Purchasing of equipment to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast cancer.

The trustees have reviewed the guidance issued by the Charity Commission regarding the public benefit of the Charity’s activities (SORP para 1.18).

## • **Achievements and Performance**

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole (SORP para 1.20).**

Patient well-being after breast cancer diagnosis and treatment remains an important element of the Charity’s work. The charity supports fitness classes for patients with breast cancer and the patient support group. We continue to maintain a petty cash system at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Breast clinics, which allows us to purchase items for elderly and vulnerable patients such as a taxi home or a surgical support garment. In addition, the charity refurbished the counselling room in the Tunbridge Wells Breast Clinic to make it a more appropriate space to deliver bad news.

This year the charity made further improvements to the patient journey App and has bought a mobile X-ray machine for the pathology department. This equipment will help speed up the processing of tissue specimens removed during surgery to reduce the waiting time for results.

The charity has supported the ongoing training and development of breast team members by funding attendance at breast cancer conferences and educational courses.

## **Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period (SORP para 1.21)**

Mr Matthew Pounds

## **Respective resposibilities of trustees and examiner** Bowyer Pounds & Co, Maidstone

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees Independent Examiner consider that an audit is not required for this year under s.144 of the Charities Act 2016 (The Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed It is my responsibility to

- examine the accounts under s.145 of the Charities Act

- follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission (under s.145(5)(b) of the Charities Act) and

- to state whether any particular matters have come to my attention

## **Basis of independent examiner's statement**

My examination was carried out in accordance with general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair ' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In connect with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

- 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:

   - to keep accounting records in accordance with s.130 of the Charities Act

   - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or

- 2) to which in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
