The Trustees of the Alresford Men’s shed present their Annual Report and accounts for the year ending 31[st] December 2022.

*Two new Trustees were added in April in order to build up representation of the members again.
Alresford Men’s Shed is governed by the Constitution dated 7[th] November 2017 and Trustees are elected by the members of Alresford Men’s Shed in accordance with the constitution.
Objectives of the Charity:
“ To promote the social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people (particularly but not exclusively men aged 18 or over), within Alresford and surrounding area, from being socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society through the provision of facilities in which they can meet jointly or individually to undertake creative, physical or recreational activities, learn and pass on skills and knowledge and support each other socially.

For the purposes of this clause ‘socially excluded’ means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one or more of the following factors: unemployment, financial hardship, youth or old age, and ill health (physical or mental) .”

TRUSTEE’S REPORT 2022
Activities & Achievements of 2022.

The number of Members on 31[st] December 2022 was 26.

In November Alresford Men’s Shed was given the Millenium Silver Salver Award for 2022 from the Alresford Society, the citation stated “for encouraging local people to abandon society’s throwaway culture”.

Generally, it was a year when we were in the final stages of recovery from Covid, but enjoying healthy donation figures as can be seen from the Financial Report below.

Attendance figures improved greatly with the count of sessions attended of 1450. The previous year there were only 899 attendances, mainly due to the residual effect of Covid. Five day opening was introduced in the last 2 months of 2021, this has been successful in improving attendances and very well received by members of the public.

Eight out of 10 of the jobs were repairs, the remainder Commissions, Internal Shed work, and Personal Projects.

In the Spring the shed members built Mink Rafts for the Watercress & Winterbournes Scheme to be used on the Arle and Itchen to trap the minks that destroy native wildlife.

In spring the team created our largest Item so far by completing the new scoreboard for Tichborne Park Cricket Club which was very well received.

The Shed members Rebuilt or Refurbished another half dozen or so Church & Parish Council Notice Boards.

Backed by the Alresford Pigs Association AMS continued to provide the Mobility Aids Hub for Alresford District with around 200 transactions resulting in many Mobility Scooters and other aids refurbished or repaired.

A new full sized Nativity Tableaux was built for the Alresford Pigs Association, and a miniature version for a very grateful local School.
It is evident that these activities reflect our commitment to our objectives with respect to pursuing worthwhile activities both for the enjoyment and wellbeing of the members, and for the benefit of the community.
Objectives for the forthcoming year.
AMS is anticipating a notice to leave the current premises during the next year since the premises are earmarked for demolition and redevelopment.
Land is to be leased from Alresford and Cheriton Scouts, and planning permission has been granted to build new Shed accommodation.
The reserves have been built up, and a National Lottery Grant is being negotiated to facilitate this. Much of the site work, bases for the shed, and fitting out will be carried out by the members.
