The main activity of the charity is to organise an annual festival in Abingdon. In 2021 the festival was moved to June. Following two years of cancelation and a very limited on-line event in 2021, the 2022 Festival was aimed at reestablishing the festival.

The Festival comprised: A free Family Science Day held in a marquee as part of the Town Council’s Jubilee celebrations with interactive science-based demonstrations and a Planetarium dome.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

A free Science Market in the Market Square in Abingdon with family oriented interactive demonstrations.

A series of public ticketed talks in venues around Abingdon on a variety of science and technology subjects.

A free family-oriented talk on the scientific method with emphasis on interaction and fun.

Local schools carried out an air quality monitoring project, sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry and DPD UK Ltd, over a two-year period and exhibited their results at the Abingdon County Hall Museum in collaboration with One Planet Abingdon as part of the Festival.

In organising the Festival, the Trustees had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

The number of volunteers involved this year was limited by the timing of the Festival during school examinations, the easing of Covid restrictions on travel with many people going on holiday and continuing reluctance to attend indoor public gatherings.

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

Section D                      Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

The main achievement in the year 2021/22 was the re-establishment of the Festival after two years of cancelation in 2020 and very limited activity in 2021. In order to re-establish the Festival the Trustees decided to accept an operating loss in organising the festival, by use of some of the reserves. The outcome was a smaller loss than that budgeted.
