Our planned training opportunities were disrupted by the Covid pandemic but will be delivered through a variety of programmes that support small charities to become more efficient, effective, accountable and self-sustaining e.g. Foundation for Social Improvement, The Fore. ## **Objects** - 1.1 The objects of the CIO are, for the public benefit, the advancement of education and the arts, and the relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage particularly but not exclusively by: - 1.1.1 providing dance movement tuition and classes; and - 1.1.2 providing training to persons in order to provide optimal movement opportunities within an educational context through dance movement tuition and classes providing training to persons in order to provide dance movement tuition and classes. ## **Statutory Declaration on Public Benefit** The Trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties. ## **Executive Summary 2020** EDPS - a CIO trading as MovementWorks - was established in 2017 to provide high-quality movement education experiences in deprived areas of London to children, young people, vulnerable adults, their carers and educators. We aim to make movement-based learning more accessible to all, with a focus on those with financial hardship, physical disabilities and learning difficulties such as autism and other marginalised groups, including black and ethnically diverse communities. Our programmes since our creation have transformed the lives of thousands by boosting physical wellbeing and mental health, improving communication skills and self-confidence and reducing the feeling of social isolation and lack of community. They are also designed to form a strong base for the National Curriculum by complementing learning in the core subjects of literacy and maths for primary school students. Educational Dance Provision Services T/A MovementWorks Registered Charity No. 1176176 Our work is delivered by specially trained, freelance professional artists at mainstream and special educational schools, Early Years settings, children’s centres, community groups that support vulnerable adults, and community leisure facilities. Since our inception we have established protocols and policies for GDPR Compliance, Privacy Policy, Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, Equal Opportunities Policy, Health and Safety Policy, Behaviour Support Policy, Volunteer Policy, Risk Assessment, Monitoring Progress and Social Impact, Financial Protocols and Policy. In 2020 prior to the restrictions brought about by Covid 19, the charity was regularly delivering its programmes in four schools, five early years settings, one children’s centre and four community groups. In addition, the charity was running four funded projects: ‘Children In Need’ at two educational centres; ‘Action For Brockley’ at two educational centres; ‘Action for Autism, Brixton’ at one leisure centre; and the William Brake Foundation project at a nursery school for children from deprived backgrounds. Educational Dance Provision Services T/A MovementWorks Registered Charity No. 1176176 Our Managing/Creative Director was continuing our educational outreach work with a guest lecture and workshop seminar at New York University, London in January and an invitation to present at the National Autistic Society Professional Conference, Birmingham in February. On 8[th] March 2020, the MovementWorks team, including one of our Trustees, attended The London Sports Awards at The Guildhall where we were celebrated finalists in the category of Children and Young People. Educational Dance Provision Services T/A MovementWorks Registered Charity No. 1176176 With the exception of the ‘Action for Autism’ project which had already come to a natural end in February, all face-to-face delivery ceased in March 2020 in line with government guidance. Since our operation was effectively completely shut down, in order to remain solvent, we put our Managing/Creative Director on the Government furlough scheme (full-time from April to June). During this time the Board, together with our part-time Administrator/Project Manager and with the support of an external fundraising partner with whom we had previously worked, successfully bid for £44,996 of emergency funding from Arts Council England and The National Lottery. This allowed us to bring back our Manging/Creative Director to devise, set up, trial and then fully launch a daily programme of virtual classes called ‘MovementWorks Online’. With the development of this new delivery model, we were able to continue to support the most vulnerable children and communities in London. - _“Thank you for all the virtual movement sessions you have enabled our children and families to access during lockdown. When restrictions lifted during the summer, we were able to reconnect with some of the most vulnerable communities affected by isolation with some socially distanced outdoor events in conjunction with National Autistic Society local partnerships. Managing and Creative Director, Ali Golding, interviewed by Anna Kennedy MBE on 'All Things Autism’ During the autumn our Managing/Creative Director, Ali Golding, was invited to provide a series of webinars on optimising movement for early years development during lockdowns in association with The Bright Start Foundation Trust and the UAE Educational Department. This brought in an additional $800 to the charity. The year-end also brought more success. MovementWorks received an Ironmongers’ Company grant of £8,942 to run a project in an ASD specialist school and was a celebrated finalist in the One Dance UK Award for Inspirational Work in Education and Outreach.
