Achlevements and performance in 2022-2023
The Board of Trustees met 3 tlmes during the year, and also held the AGM in November 2022. Officers
of the Board meet Infomially on a frequent basls. to carry out the administrBtion and oversee flnancial
affairs of the charrty.
The Compass programme included provision for Ukralnlan ￿fijgeeS coming to Stay wlth hosts In York
from April 2022. By March 2023 that number had grown to 3SO. The Charity works closely wlth York
city Council, Refugee Athon York. and other l¢xal agencles, Induding housing services, to ensure
that Ukrainian refugees have suttable hosting arrdngements whith meet thelr needs. Welcome packs
are provlded for the chlldren who come, and other essential items such as UK Sim cards are made

In December 2022, 450 asylum seekers were placed in a York hotel. Compass appeals successfully
gathered essentlal dothlngi welcome packs for those arriving in the aty, and other items Identified
as Important to thelr well- belng, Indudlng cydes for transport. Those accommodated In the hotel

As our financial year began in April 2022, the War in Ukraine was one month old. We have received
more refugees in York over the past year. than at any tlme in the short history of our charity. Because
of the close links with our partners, which we have worked hard to create, we are confident of
conb"nuing to deliver the support developed over the past year. Thi5 will protect the well-being and
safety of new and exlsting sanctuary seekers. York will continue to live up to its national status as a
City of Sanctuary.

Financlal Review
The charity's financial position at 31st March 2023 was as follows. Income for the year totals £93,845
of which £3,413 was donated by individuals. £25,523 was given by faith and community groups and
£2909 from fund raising. Grants for restritted funds amounted to £62,000. Over the year, 90010 of
payrnents were used to deliver support and assist the needs of individuals and familie5. Retained funds
for 2023 stood at £79,919 (2022- £23,034). Funding met the needs of those using our servlces over
the year. The non- financial support from volunteers far exceeds the financial output we are able to
offer.
We expect to meet all commitments on spendlng for the planned progrdmmes in 2023-24. Increased
demand on our services as a result of the arrival of Ukrainian refugees means the need to malntain our
increased income for the year ahead. Funding is assured to enable us to provlde spedflc and dedicated
work wlth Ukralnlans In York. Appllcations for grants, fundraising and other donations are in hand.
The Charlty pollcy on holding reserves and why they are held
Malntaining a reserve enables us to guarantee tontinulty of work over the next 12 months. The amount
of reseNes held at 31st Marrh 2023 was Increased to £35000. The figure is subject to review by the
Trustees, dependent on assessment of essential runnlng costs of the chanty.
