ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

Significant activities

Principal Activities During 2020

Overview

The start of 2020 saw the good work of 2019 continued and built on, until the end of March when the Covid Pandemic forced the theatre to close, and it was closed until the end of the financial year.It is currently still closed with no date in mind yet to re open until government guidelines permit.

In the first 3 months of 2020, in line with the objects of the charity, we have:

· staged a comprehensive programme of shows and performances as set out below;

· Continue to increase our engagement with the broader community, promoting capacity building and increasing public benefit;

· Constantly reviewed and continue to tightened up our constitution governance arrangements;

· Preserved the fabric of the theatre building and made significant improvements to it.

Principal Business Activities - shows and performances

During 2020 we scheduled a number of professional and amateur shows and were predicting a good year.

However due to the pandemic all shows from April onwards were either cancelled or rescheduled into 2021 The shows and performances which did go ahead were:

Camelot the Panto T Rextasy The Floyd Effect

We continued with out community cinema.

The films shown were :

The Lion King T Rextasy The Floyd Effect

Community engagement, capacity building and public benefit.

Obviously with the pandemic the opportunities were severely limited.

We continued to develop and grow our youth section. The original youth section BYTES (Bacup Youth Theatre Entertainment Society) continues to gain members.

Our after school group BEST continued to gain momentum.

We have provided a range of volunteering opportunities in a wide range of areas for sections of the local Community.

We have continued to collaborate and be in dialogue with other local groups and organisations, through the pandemic.

Constitution and Governance

We continued to monitor and improve our governance and procedures.

Building Improvement

2 of 15

Bacup Royal Court Theatre Group Ltd Report of the Trustees Continued

For the year ended 31 December 2020

The fact that the building has been unoccupied for 9 months has caused a number of problems which we have started addressing and work continues on these :

Emergency lighting replacement Dressing room roof replacement Flat roof recovering and work to coping stones to avoid water ingress Re plastering works as a result of water ingres Regular cleaning to avoid dam and mould building up

We have had a former damp storage room tanked and converted to a new rehearsal space

We will continue review our skill set procedures and policies and seek to build on our strengths and address any gaps or weaknesses.

We have a proven track record in identifying, nurturing, developing and promoting the talent of young people through the youth section which we will hopefully grow in the coming year.

We have a full programme of amateur and professional shows planned for 2021 along with theatre hire to local community.How much of this will actually go ahead is dependant on when we are allowed to re open.

We have received a grant from the Arts Council to help with this work and to help keep the theatre viable along with the Covid 19 Government Grants.

Further refurbishment works will be undertaken in 2021 to continue to improve the facilities for both our ticket buying public and our members and visiting professionals.

Bacup Royal Court Theatre Group Ltd Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees

For the year ended 31 December 2020

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charitable company for the year ended 31 December 2020.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity Trustees, who are also directors for the purposes of company law, are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiners statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

  4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
