- We Gre now members of the Notionol Councilfor Voluntary Organisations.
- We have instituted o system whereby the majority of our Charitrfs records are kept in a Dropbox account, to which the Choir, Treasurer and Secretary have occess. We ore investigoting the possibility of olso digitolising some of the historicol documents for extro sofekeeping. We are proud to soy thot we hove been oble to continue corrying out our activities, distributing food, drink5, toiletries and clothes on the Strand, in spite of the chollenges of thot tronsitionalperiod, and we only suspended activitiesfrom 31st October2023for few weeks, while our volunteers tmined to comply with the new training requirements instigated by our insurers. We resumed our ortivities on 5 December 2023. The Christmos Party was a great success, with 60 gift porcels containing socks, hots, gloves ond scarves being distributed and qrotefully received by homele55 people on the Strond. 30 of the scorve5 were handknitted by the 93 year old mother of one of the volunteersl We olso distributed some other items of clothing thot hod been donoted such Gs jogging trouser5. jumpers and T-shirts. The Charity hos olso been reflecting on its Grtivities, ond how to bestfulfil our aims ond objectives. We hove considered creating subcommitteesforfundroising ond to creote o fresh online presence, which we hope to do once we hove (7 greater number of Trustees who could toke on these tosks. We have been investigoting the possibility offinding premisesfrom where to carry out our work, possibly working in portnership with other Chorities, or shoring the use of their premises. This hos not bornefruit yet. From previous experience, our client group is reluctant to travel to occe55 services. Also. h(Jving premise5 from which to serve the food and drink would bring up o host of issues such os how to mointain security ond safety and to prevent damage to the premises. If we did hove premises, we might be able to expand ourremit to include the offer of medicol and odvisory support, but ogoin this would require much greoter levels of expertise ond we simply don't have the manpower to explore the p055ibility of planning such a project at present. We looked ot thefeosibility of ocquiring a vonfor the distribution offood on thestrand. but aportfrom the c05t involved in it5 rental or acquisltion. there would be obstacles such os, who would drive it and where it would be porked. Insurance and congestion charge costs would odd to the running expenses. We 0150 considered whether another location, rather than the Strand, might be better for our fvod distribution, but there is the element of continuity to be taken into considerotion. a5 historically the Strand is where a lot of homeless ond disadvantaged
people congregote. The fact thot other orgoni5ation5 also distribute food nearby might actually be beneficial, in terms of complementority of whot is on offer. and in terms of different time slots being available for people to turn up and receive assistance. The odded odvantoge of remaining in the same area 15 thefact thot there is o police stotion very c105e by, which add5 extro security. We have reflected on the issue of security during the distribution offood, how to deal with aggressive behaviour and how to protect the personal space of volunteers. Some of the resolutions were to seek more sources of training on this topic,. to stort wearing high visibility vests,. to recruit more volunteers,. to ensure that ony incidents are recorded,. ond to identify current risks and preventative strategies. We investigoted the possibility of offering more training to at least some of our volunteers, for exomple in conflict de-escalotion, Future outlook We lookforward to continuing to make our contribution to the wellbeing of homeless and di5advontaged people, with core, confidence ond o p051tive outlook. Flnanclal revlew We rely on donotions ondfundroising. The chority received donotion5 of £2,550 in the yeor andspent £2,982, giving rise to o small deficit of £432. The 8onk balonce therefore reduced to £14,076 In ¢on¢luslon.' The Board of Trustees of FfJith in People Choriry would Ilke to t(7ke thi5 opportunity to thank each and every one of our volunteers, our friends, our donor5 because it is their help, hord work, dedicotion and the free giving of their time that enobles us to carry out our work.
