This year we have been pleased to find that the support from our school community has not suffered despite the many pressures on households and we have held many successful events and been able to provide some much-needed funds. We began the year with the Christmas fair which, because of the busy Christmas event schedule, we decided to hold after school for the first time. This turned out to be a positive innovation with lots of good feedback and fundraising was broadly in line with previous years so it may prove a permanent move.
As in previous years the school discos were a highlight for many and provide a large fundraising boost in relation to a fairly modest effort on behalf of the committee. We were thankful for a large number of volunteers to run these events from both parents and members of staff. As we had been disappointed that last year’s leavers disco had to be postponed we were delighted with the new Leavers Festival which was the brainchild of Miss Wilkin. We were happy to provide a BBQ at cost as well as a tuck shop and would love this idea to be repeated next year. Again we would like to help wherever possible and felt what made it really special was the amount of input the Year 6s had obviously had into what would happen for their end of year celebration.
Another new event this year was Fun Fridays where we sold sweet treats at the end of the day at both sites one Friday of each term. We were generally happy with our pre-ordering system and despite a few teething problems it proved a good addition to the school calendar. We hope that next year we can experiment with some more ideas within this format.
The culmination of our fundraising was once again the Summer Fair which was thankfully mostly dry and we were pleased to welcome stall holders from the school community including a number of Year 6 pupils who did a strong trade due to knowing their audience so well! Thanks go out to everyone who volunteered and helped on the day including Honley Football club for the loan of the goal and Chris Hughes for donating his old gas BBQ to FOHJINS for use for this fair and into the future.
I would like to thank everyone at school for continuing to support FOHJINS by volunteering to help out at events, attending committee meetings or just by coming down and having fun. Thank you to all the staff for giving even more of your time to support us and to my vice-chairs Claire, Katy and Allison and our secretary Lynda for everything you do to make sure it all keeps running.
