People usually slay In our sights till they pass away or Tnove on to Residen1121 Care We arè otten the single most
rpgular caring contact they have. Heakh¢are episodes come and go, along wth the Care of health profession818 but

We ale athys looking at ways lo partrser wilh other community organisations within our borough and ￿E1Cc￿e with
optn-arms collaborations th31 will enhan￿ our offer to the oldèr residents of SUr￿Y Heath. So¢i81 isolation and mental
he8lh have become èven more o18n issue due to COVKI, and we will continue to sypport where we ean.
SHAC is an Èngine for volunteering11 They a￿ the key re50UFtÈ for our SeN1￿8, and thi5 was r&cognised by winning the
"Kings Award forvolunteering 2023"
Our seN]￿S a￿ vital and makè a posrtive differen￿ lo people's livesl This is why supporting SHAC in total ts SO vital as
it attracts and converts people into active volunteers.
Our range of athvilies in the local comffluDitEs ffleans we cast a wide net and dr¥¥V in many lonely people, often 'earfy'
dows come to us for company and then choose to volunteer to help with our elder less able membèrs. Through the
Rainbow Cafe and our opett events people connect and reconnect and build new n8iwotks. We try not to traise on
pathos or guilt we offer an upbeat environment, open ac￿$ that engage$ the whole community - young to old - familie$
lo singktons.
ExpenenTrd Social Prescribers oftèp. rernrnmend volunkering with us to their patEnts. We have 5 of these trained up
as befrienders In our Vlslting 8nd one helpin9 Wlth events.
Widowed Men are notoriously difficutt to re3th out to and befriend. even though they are often very lonely and di¥pirited.
We have developed pathways to ongage with them and attract Ihem into our arena.
Very elderly couples. 85 plus living independently and still sUPPOrting each other. are so vulnerable to k)5s can be
attracted into ovr orbit lo develop trusted relationships,. so we can provide p3thways to friendships and support neiworks
when one orthe other departs.

The Charity has worked hard to increase the awareness of it5 work locally to en¢ouTrgÈ 8 wider rznge of ino)me
streams from the public and lorAI business. And has Suc￿$S[￿lIY parthered with local or9anksations to Provbso
additional servicès. Grants still play a key role In the ca)arity's funding.
Surrey He8th Age Concem CIO is one of the few lo¢al serwlce providers th?1 r8cgNes rèvenve grants to help support
work fvoTn Sufrey Heath Borough Counol ISHBCI. The grant fDr the provision ol seN1￿$ in 2023124 was £10,000 and
thi5 was helpfully lin9 fen￿￿ for a serond year 2024J5 ThÈ grant is actively Th8nag6d through the Extemal Partnership
Committee through a ￿¢]pro¢31 Sewi￿ level agr8em8nt.

This yearfs operating finan￿5 hawe been successfully managed using the Quid(Books online awountyng pad(age fur
bookkeeping and runnino the payr¢ll in house. Wherever possible data and reporting ￿ gathered by online forms.

Whilst s&wice d8liv8ry continued Su￿$$fullY to plan Ihe Chattty started the year on the back foot finanually. The
impact of planned investment in. Fundraising effort had been dpl3yed by recruitment problems combin&d with
increasingly difficult fun(ting background across the seet(>r. Our new Charity map.ager resigned 31ter 2months in post.
and we appointed froffl within Ihe th8rlli- combinittg the Man8gement role and the fundraiser roles.
We wotked hard and found savings wrthin the operatior, and intrOdU￿d some pri￿ GhaTrgE5 311 helping to reduce the
losses. The Rainbow cafè operation was reviewed, and menu5 were reslru¢tured.
With clear largets and plan ln pFace the new Charity manager was able to attract new grants from 10¢81 Sour￿ such as
Frimley Fuel Alloknents Surrey Community Fund8. This was helped by the add￿onal Confiden￿ given to th¢ charity
by SHBC offer to fett￿ funds for the coming year.
Fvnds We￿ attracte(I from many Trew sources. We 1aun¢hed a Crowd funding campaign whid) was not successful
however It had an Impact on our supporters, and we found support corning from rnany di￿¢￿0￿$ but nol into the online
funding appeal.

an aggressive tA)mmunily and donor fvndraising programme already 8Ctive.

of the Omni Busin8ss Networfi Group for Surrey Heath.
Ra5nbow Café Reaching out- and beÈrtg relevant
The aiFn of the Rsinbow Cafe is to provide a Tneeting p12ce for thé elderly and all members of our cornrnuniiy with
Iow-CDSt FefteshThenls in a wanr and welcoming atmospher8. The growng number of the lonely eldedy living in the
itTrmediate town has signifiG8ntly Inc￿¥sed and the Rainbow Café acts as an important opening for new tssijenls to be
welcomed into the town
The Rainbow learn offer signposting infonnation to tool tesKlents and informa1 weekly one to vne session has
established employing a knO￿e￿geab1e volunteer.
We continue to attract families and their older rempies to such an extsnt that we have had to acquire highchairs for
grand 8Dd gre8t grandchildren.
The c8f& offers & warm welcome to 811 and with its SUPPDrbve and patient staff attr8cts visits by carers looking after
people living wth dementia and oiher *Ve￿ difficulties.
Our volunteers r8n5e from 18 to 80 plus, women ancj men th8t I￿$1Y gwo their time to the eommunity 8ftd occasionally
work experience teenageFS. They all dain to be richer for the experien* and weatth of new liends and contacts they
enjoy.

The Rainbvw Café doubles as our venue for the weekly Tea & Memories. event. a weekly Vintage tea party providin9
high tea at a minirDal cost This event fills the Café wrth up to 25 elderfy people who for rnost part live alone. some
walk from homes in the town, others use a volunt$6r taxi Servi￿ and or lifts frorn fiiends coming In from 811 over the
Borough.
The Cafe is used for octssion31 events such as our Volunteer annu81 team meetings, partner events with other related
¢haritios. We us¢ the Rainbow Café every month ft>r an evening auiz nvahtto help raise income for the chsrrity.
Monthly Tea and Chatter
The seNiTr continued throughtsut the year - providing a(xOmpan￿d local trip out and fresh cornpany for these frail
people.

We had people dunng the year conia¢t the organisation for infomation on a wde range ol topi¢￿ related to ohler
pec1p￿. SHAC staff members have therEfore caftlinued to provide this sBrviee, fooJsin9 partscularty on local infomiation
and signposting eD.quiries to specialist ageicies when appropriate.
Volunteers and Stsff team
SHAC pays tribut8 to Iho larg6 number of volunteers sorne 1 DO who gpie so generously their valuable time and
expertise. Without thelr support SHAC would not be able to offer the level Olse￿1￿ provKIEd.
The Trustees also 'Nish lo thank the staff, Sarah Jane Croke, Angela Meculloch, Ruth GOdf￿Y and L￿a Bennett and
Clairè A3ines fortheir hard work and commitmentto the WOTk ofthe Charrty.

STAFF CHANGES
We only ran with one month wath the extra overhead of the fundraiser. We shifted Paul's salary to fund the exlr
hours in the Cafe during the year. Sally took on the Fundralsing role for Feb March at the lesser rate and Niwla
came in just lor March.
