## **Trustees Annual Report for year ending 31[st] December 2023**

## **Aim and Purposes**

The principal purpose of the Church is the advancement of the Christian faith in accordance with Membership Fundamentals. The Church may also advance education and carry out other charitable purposes in the United Kingdom and/or other parts of the world.

The Trustees are also specifically responsible for the maintenance of the Church buildings, the manse at 70 Sutherland Road and the adjacent flats (Beaufort House) at 442 Lincoln Road.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The Trustees are committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our church and to become part of the community at LRC. The Trustees maintain an overview of worship in the Church and make suggestions on how our services can involve the many groups that live within the local area. Our service and worship put faith into practice through prayer and Scripture, music and teaching.

When planning our activities for the year, the Trustees have considered the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit, and in particular, the guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. To this end we try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our church community through:

- Regular public worship, prayer, Bible study, preaching and teaching;

- Communion of the Lord’s Supper which shall normally be observed once a week;

- Evangelism and mission, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally;

- Nurture and growth of Christian disciples;

- Giving and encouraging pastoral care;

- Supporting and encouraging charitable social action in the United Kingdom and abroad;

- Encouraging relationships with and supporting other Christians.

To facilitate this work it is important that we maintain the fabric of the Church and buildings

## **Achievements and Performance**

## _**Worship and Prayer**_

The Trustees were keen to offer a range of services during the week and over the course of the year that our community find both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling. This includes Bible Study and Prayer Meetings for committed Christians, Gospel and outreach meetings for those exploring the faith. Our Morning Meeting is run in conjunction with a Junior Church to enable and encourage Families with Children to attend.

The Church holds a variety of events that have a common element of ‘food’, this included three Fellowship Meals following the Sunday Morning Service, an Afternoon Tea in the Summer and a Ladies Breakfast. These are intended as an outreach, but also to encourage interaction and a feeling of community within our congregation.

## **Trustees Annual Report for year ending 31[st] December 2023**

The Church continues to maintain an online presence, publishing a meeting on You Tube each Sunday and holds a weekly Zoom Meeting for Prayer and Bible Study. We have a WhatsApp Group and Weekly Newsletter to circulate prayer requests and keep the congregation in touch and aware of developments.

All are welcome to attend our regular services. At present the Church has 34 members, with an average attendance on the Sunday Morning Meeting of between 35 and 50 people.

## _**The Church Buildings**_

The Trustees completed the programme to overhaul the Church owned buildings. Work on the Main Hall and Beaufort House Upstairs Flat were undertaken last year This year attention was turned to The Manse (70 Sutherland Road) and the Beaufort House Downstairs Flat

The central heating system of the Manse was upgraded, including new Boiler, Pipework, Radiators and TRV’s. Downstairs Chimney Breast were removed to create additional space, and a new damp course was fitted.

A full refit of the Downstairs Flat in Beaufort House included a change to the room configuration to create a communal Lobby area, new windows to the rear, new bathroom suite and a new fitted kitchen. A full redecoration was undertaken as well as new flooring throughout

## _**Pastoral Care**_

During the week the Rear Hall was used by our Toddlers group on Thursday. We have approximately 20 children for each session (morning and afternoon) with a waiting list for the morning session.

We also ran Family Church Days three times in 2023 on a Saturday. This involved craft activities for the Children, a short talk and a meal afterwards. These are always well received and are seen as good way to make an initial contact with families in the area.

Some members of the Church were unable to attend meetings due to sickness or age. Pastor Paul Fellows regularly undertook home and hospital visits to any who require this.

## _**Mission and Evangelism**_

We demonstrated our faith by giving to those in need. Although the Church does not take a collection there are boxes at the back of the Church for those who wished to donate in that way. Any donations made to the Church on the 1[st] Sunday of each month were given to charitable causes. Regular recipients included Tear Fund, FEBA Radio, CAM International and Open Doors UK. The Church also responded to specific appeals.

## _**Financial Review**_

The Church Finances remained in a satisfactory position. The assembly is dependent on donations made by the Church members and other donors, which for the year ending 31[st] Dec. 2023 totalled £46,462. Other main incomes are Rent from Beaufort House (£19,813), Gift Aid receipts (£9,610),

Toddler Group Fees (£1,920) and Interest on investments (£1,115).

Whilst total expenditure (£117,974) was greater than income by £38,562, this was because of the work undertaken to upgrade the buildings. This was both necessary and overdue, we have also begun to see an increase in the Beaufort House rental receipts due to the work done.

## _**Reserves Policy**_

The Trustees agreed to maintain a balance of £22,000 in the reserve fund, this being part of the £35,000 currently held in National Savings income Bonds. This equates to at least three months unrestricted payments

## _**Volunteers**_

The work was sustained by the good will of the members who give of their time, skills and money so willingly to enable this ministry to continue.

## _**Structure, governance and management**_

The Lincoln Road Chapel is a registered charity (Number 1175925). The Churches Constitution details the management and governance of the church. The governing body of the church is the board of trustees, currently comprising of four people. The Charity Trustees are responsible for the governance and daily running of the Church acting according to the will of God as discerned by the Church Members’ Meeting and subject to any specific or general directions of the Church Members’ Meeting.

The Trustees meet most weeks to discuss matters arising from the day to day running of the church. In regard to spiritual matters, the pastor and elders may provide guidance and advice as may be necessary from time to time. The full membership of the church meets three times a year to consider all matters of general concern including deciding on how the funds of the church are to be spent.

Special church members meetings can be called should this be deemed necessary.

## **Independent Examiners’ Report**

For the year ending 31[st] December 2023

TO THE TRUSTEES OF LINCOLN ROAD CHAPEL

Richard Fellows Alan Bocock Chilongo Sathulu Rev Paul Fellows

I, below, signed the Independent Examiner of Lincoln Road Chapel's financial records for the year ending 31 December 2023 report on the examination.

As per the Charity Commission's new directions and guidance (CC32), Lincoln Road Chapel (LRC) qualifies for the Independent Examination rather than an Audit with income thresholds below £1 million or £250,000 (when other assets of total value up to £3.26 million are considered).

Lincoln Road Chapel's exact income for the year ending 31 December 2023 is £79 449, and its Net Value is £-38,561 after the expenses of £110,011 have been taken off.

Please note that the value of fixed assets owned by the Charity is undisclosed. For the purpose of this examination they are considered at their purchase value.

Lincoln Road Chapel also meets the Independent Examination eligibility criteria independently of consideration of the fixed asset value.

Charity's balance accounts list current assets in the form of donations represented by the relevant, identifiable funds.

As an examiner I have a duty to report on the 3 main areas of the accounts:

If the Accounts are kept to the required standard

If the accounts agree with the records

If the adopted format of the Lincoln Road Chapel’s accounts is correct

Additionally, I have a duty to report on any issued that I come across and that remained unresolved upon my investigation and communications during the Independent Examination.

I have examined the Charity’s Accounts, discussed the matters that I came across verbally and electronically with Mr R. Fellows, responsible for preparing the accounts and representing the Trustees of Lincoln Road Chapel.

The Charity continues its work from previous years, with steady income from regular donors, planned expenses and focus on the goals highlighted in the Charity Manifesto.

Accounting records are good, orderly. verifiable for the authenticity of activities and with accounts.

Charity’s accounts are prepared on Receipts and Payments basis and Charity meet the eligibility criteria with gross income falling below £250,000.

I followed the examiner's directions for carrying out this examination. I referred to other relevant HMRC sources and raised questions, for which I received good explanations.

The process of Independent Examination is recorded in the Notes to the Independent Examination, where I also documented the explanations and resolutions to matters that came up.

The Recommendations’ part of the Notes contains the plan of action for implementation.

Under the obligation the Examiner additionally submitted the Chairty’s Information for the AML checks of compliance, with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB), the regulatory body.

The result came back consistent with previous years. ICB Client Reference Number: 155736
