New Connexions Free Church Trustees Report 1[st] July 2021 to 30[th] June 2022

Members Meetings

NCHB held _ trustees’ meetings during the accounts period – 14.7.21

NCHB held _ member’s meetings.

Regular meetings focused on praying for, planning and preparing for the future of NCHB in terms of a permanent meeting place and employment of a pastor.

Worship Services

Services remained online through July and August 2021 as Lark fields Community Centre remained closed following lockdown and repairs to the building.

A new church family home was sourced and services began on 5/9/21 at Queen Adelaide Hall. This is a temporary facility as there is limited space available for Sunday school. A permanent home is still being considered and prayed about. The NCHB trustees extend many thanks to the committee of QA Hall for making us as a church so welcome during the last year.

NCHB has held a weekly Sunday service since September 5[th] 2021 where time is given to worship and teaching. Services have been led by visiting speakers/pastors and members of the church. Other services have been included to celebrate the Christian festivals:

19/12/21 Candle – lit Christmas carol service

25/12/21 Christmas Day Celebration service

15/4/22 Good Friday Remembrance service

17/4/22 Easter Breakfast and Celebration service

Other Church meetings

During July and August 2021, where it was not possible to meet up in person, prayer groups and some of the house groups continued weekly using the Zoom online facility. As restrictions lifted some house groups reformed.

Since September three house groups have met weekly or fortnightly. These meetings have included bible study, fellowship and prayer. A prayer group meets weekly on a Monday night to lift many different needs into the Lord’s hands.

Pastor Role

Rev Keith Waters resigned from leading NCHB in March 2020. He remained preaching and worshipping online at the church until 22[nd] September 2020 when he moved on to lead his new church in Carshalton, London.

NCHB pastoral committee has worked hard to secure a new pastor for the church.

Although two candidates were interviewed by the committee and sermons preached to the congregation, for different reasons no position was offered. The search for a pastor continues- we continue to prayerfully seek a new leader. Prayer and discussion is also in place to consider plans for a new church home as Larkfields, our previous venue , still has limited number access.

Outreach/Groups within the church

The Men’s group has continued, where restrictions have allowed, through this period. Meetings have included group walks, evening gatherings and barbecues. These meetings have provided great opportunities for fellowship and mutual support/encouragement.

Happily, Sunday school has been able to reform. Facilities at Queen Adelaide Hall are restricted. There is no separate room for any Children’s work. However, as we currently only have two younger members of Sunday school age, we have been able to teach the group within the entrance lobby and outside (when weather allows).

The ladies of the church participate in a WhatsApp group where encouragement, news and praise is shared. Plans are in place for a Ladies meeting to be re-introduced in July 2022.

Other events and outreach have been difficult to organize due to our temporary home.

Missionary Work

New Connexions continued, through this period, to support various missionary organizations in their work to provide for needs and to share the gospel. Regular donations were made to The Barnabas Fund, The Sierra Leone Mission and Tear Fund.

Finances

The finances of the church are as recorded in the accounts statement. Income came from contributions given freely by the church members and congregation. With God’s grace the church was able to fully meet all its financial commitments and to donate regularly to missionary work.
