During tho past y8ar. Grief Encounter ha5 continued lo respond to rfslng demand for bereavement 8UPPOrt.
Increased referral numbers have placed addlllonal pre3sure on WaI￿n9 Ilm88; however. our strengthened trlag
functlon has slgnlficantly improved our ability to asse55 and priorftlse those most In nggd. This has ensured that
Ihe most vulnerable children. young people and families continue to recelve tlmely, appropriate support.
Followiro thè closure of our hèlplinè, resourcés were redirected towards more personalisèd, f8ce-to-face
SLFPPOrt, resulting in an incr8a5e in direct ther8￿ul1C sessions and more effedive us8 of our dinical spaces in
London and Bristol. Along with the implementation of the Irish Bereavemsnl Care Standard5, we strengthened
advice. guidance and bereavement support. Thi$ w8s achieved through a newly formèd and refocused
Bereavemént Support Team, responsible for man8ging initial enquiries and providing ongoing family support, end
which has enabled greater continuity of care. Workino alongside our growing team of in-house therapists, this
approach has d81ivered greater e￿i￿encY, improved responsivenoss, and a broader range of Iheiapeutic
modalities tailored to individual needs. This includes making suro the rfght level of support is provided ba￿d on
noad. getting the right h8lp in place from the most approproate people.
As the organisalion expanded ils clinical capaclty, we also implemented cosl-control mèasures to ensurfr
Qpgralional sustainability. A ujmprehensive review of conlracls, administrative functions. and Premises was
completed. leading to tho consolidation of our London operations into a single sile. This integration has
strength8ned collaboration betsveen clinical and fundraising teams and fostered a more cohesive workiThJ culture.
The rgfurbishment ol our premises has created a more welcoming, Irauma-lnfomied environment for both staff
and benefI￿ar￿$. onhancing thg quality of therapgulic experiencos.

Following th& closure of the Grieffalk helpline, Griof Encounter estsblishod a new bereavement support line to
provide an immediate response lo anquiries from bereaved child￿n, young people. and families. This service
now ensures that all calls received direcdy relats to the tharf￿8 core Pufpose of 5UPForting those affectad by
grief.
The Support line 1$ staffed by the nevAy developed 88r8avement Support Team. a multidisciplinary group of
pr8Ctilioners diverse skills and expèrience. The team provides pr8Ctical guidance. emotional support, and
signposting lo ensure that every caller ￿ceiveS timely and compassionate help. Families are also offerad
additional resources. through lailoredlneads based 'Grief Relief Kits, that are provided as soon as hglp is
reque$tg(l. Thgso include a growing rangg of boreavement support materials, including The Grief Book. writtgn
by our found8r and rgcgntly updatgd in wnsultalion with beneficiaries. Feedback indicates that both families and
profession81s find these malerials invaluable in helping children understsnd and wocess their loss.
Our sessions indude prod1￿1 help. spocialisl assessm8nl and Iherapeulic 121 support to ¢hildr8n. and wh8ro
appropriate to the surviwn9 carer. This is basgd on th8 fact that we understand that the health of the surviving
parent is the biggest predictor of the heath and well-being of the bereaved child. Our specialist assessment
helps identfy who are best placed lo support the family worktrng dosely with partners from CAMHS, Children's
$0¢Sal care and from educational s8ttings.
Recognlsing the growing challenges posed by disadvantage and povety. we also Introducod an Access to Help
Fund lo support familles who mlght otherwlse struggle to obtsin b8reavemenl support. Thi8 initiallve has reduced
barrfers to engagement and allow￿ us to extend our reach lo famlllas expertencing financlal hardship.
In parallel, we expantled our communlty engagement inltiatives to ensura our seNice3 remain Snduslve and
accesslble. This included targeted outreach to marglnalised groups such as adoleS￿nIS and LGBTa+ young
people, whose expertences of grlef are often Und8r-reC￿3nl5od or disenfranchlsed.
These developments reflect Grief Enwunter's continued comrnitment to providino accessible, person-centred,
and trauma-informed bereavement support to children. young people, and families acros5 thè UK.
Fundralslng and •v•nts
This year. Grief Encountar hosl8d tts flagship Gala Dinner, which was attended by more supporters than ever
before. The event provided a meaningful opportunty for beneficiary participation. with families and young people
contributing through hosting, speaking. and attending as special guests. The evening achieved the hlghest
financial relum in the charity's history, raising significant funds to support boreaved children and families.
The Gala's success was underpinned by an outstanding silent auction. featuring e￿aptional In-kind donations
that contributed greatty lo the overall total raised. The event also benefited from strong engagement from long-
standing donors while attracling a new and more diverse range of supporters. Volunteer involvement was
another highlight, with over 75 indNiduals and corporate vdunteers giving their timo lo ensure the event's
succes8.
Along8lde the Gala, Grfef Encounter dellvered a se￿88 of other fvndraising events, Includlng the annual Comedy
Nlghl hosted by our Founding Patron. K8vin Wells. which brought together supporters for an gvening of laughter
and awarenesswrnising. Our Golf Day$ also Gontinuod to attract loyal participants. Tnalntalning vttal incom8 and
8ngagemgnl.
In addition, third-p8rty and communlty-led fvndraising aCtiwt￿S Increased ovor the ygar. contribu￿ng further to the
charity's overall income and expandlng our supporter network. These collodve offorts demonstrat8 the

yeafs,. however. experience and best practice indicate that the typical duratson of support is around one year. To
ensur8 that sufficient fur￿5 are available to conUnue delivering our chgrltable activibes and to protect agalnst
unforesaen financial challenges, the targ8t lèvel of reseryes for the 2025126 financial year has been set at
£775.000.
This revisèd lev81 feflecls an updated assessment of the resources required to meet ongoing obligations and. rf
necessary. lo facilitste an orderly wind-down of operation8. Th8 Trustees bolieve this approach provides a
prudent balance b6tsveen safeguarding the Charity's sustainability and ensurlng that funds aro used effectwaly to
mget current needs.
The Truste8s will review the reseffts pollcy during the forthcoming financial year to ensure it remains
appropTiate and aligned with th8 charity's strat8gic and op6rational priorMe8. Any changes will bg reported in next

In additlon. the estsblishment of Speclal Adviser roles has provided access to further specialist exp8rtise,

collaborative approach will help strengthen the charity's Income base and increase opportunitie8 for meaningful
supporter engagement.

access to specialist bereavement support for children and young people. including through digital resources.
apps. and interactive tools designed to complement face-to-face services.
