## Medway Park Judo Club ## REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31[ST] DECEMBER 2020 The Trustees of Medway Park Judo Club present their annual report for the year ended 31[st] December 2020 and accounts for year ended 31[st] December 2020 and confirm they comply with the Charities Act 2011, the trust deed and the Charities SORP (FRS 102). ## **OUR MISSION STATEMENT** To provide the highest quality of Judo coaching for everyone of all ages and abilities, irrespective of their social, ethnic, religious, economic or disability backgrounds. To provide Judo activities in an inclusive safe, open and welcoming environment, conducted by qualified coaches adhering to the highest standards of good practice. To promote the ideals and principles of the sport of Judo, and to promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging participation in sporting activity. To provide opportunities for the development of participants, including coaches, volunteers and officials. To foster the development of all judoka, from social club players up to national and international competitors. ## **OUR OBJECTS** Medway Park Judo Club Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) is established for charitable purposes only, and in particular the objects of the CIO are: - To further or benefit the residents of Medway, Kent and the surrounding areas without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together said residents in a common effort to - Promote community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of coaching and facilities for judo; and - Advance amateur sport by providing coaching and facilities for Judo. ## **OUR TRUSTEES** The Trustees of Medway Park Judo Club CIO are Terry Malkinson, John Malkinson and Natalie Alston. ## **COMMITTEE MEMBERS** The Executive Committee Members of Medway Park Judo Club CIO are Terry Malkinson (Chairman), Natalie Alston (Treasurer), John Malkinson (Secretary) and Margaret Bridges (Club Welfare Officer and Senior Administrator). Other General Committee roles include Volunteer Coordinator, Membership Officer, Grading Officer, Competitions Officer and Session Lead Coaches. ## **REVIEW OF ACTIVITES AND ACHIEVEMENTS** ## **COVID‐19 Pandemic** 2020 was a very challenging year as a result of the COVID‐19 pandemic, which had a profound impact on the lives of everyone and had long‐term and ongoing effects on participation in sport. Indoor, contact activities such as Judo were among the sports for which imposed restrictions were most extensive and long‐lasting. Medway Park Judo Club were unable to offer any Judo sessions at all between 16[th] March 2020 and 6[th] September 2020, inclusive. Government and NGB restrictions allowed for limited provision (socially distanced non‐contact solo exercise for groups of up to 15) between 7[th] September 2020 and 4[th] November 2020, inclusive, and we were able to offer two junior and one senior session per week on a pre‐booked basis, but there was limited uptake from members. Sessions were briefly resumed for juniors only (two sessions per week) from 7[th] December 2020 until the Christmas closure after 17[th] December 2020. ## **Membership and Fees** Judo coaching is delivered regularly six days per week (Mon‐Sat) through ten classes meeting the needs of various age groups and abilities. Our provision was limited by the COVID‐19 pandemic (see above). The total Club Membership number at the end of the period covered by this report could not reliably be estimated as the impact of the COVID‐19‐imposed closures and restrictions on participation were uncertain. Our fees remain as below: Member Session Fee: £2.00 Non‐Member Session Fee: £2.50 Annual Junior Membership Fee: £15.00 Annual Senior Membership Fee: £28.00 Annual Family Membership Fee: £40.00 ## _NB ‐ There has been no increase to our membership or session fees since 2008._ ## **Classes/Sessions** We continue to deliver ten classes over six days per week (Mon‐Sat) meeting the needs of a variety of age groups and abilities ensuring equitable access for all. One member is currently undertaking the UKCC Level 1 qualification. ## **Officials** Eight Medway Park Judo Club members currently give up their time on a voluntary basis to aid in the running of competitions, gradings and other events. - **2** Senior Examiners and **1** trainee Senior Examiner - **0** Technical Officials - **5** Referees ## **Extended External Roles and Key Appointments** **Terry Malkinson** is the current Kent County President and Kent County Coach **John Malkinson** is the current Southern Area Vice‐Chairman, Southern Area Male Squad Manager, Member of the Southern Area Promotions and Kata Sub‐Committees, Kent Male Squad Manager and Regional England Development Squad support coach **Natalie Alston** is the current Southern Area Female Squad Manager and Kent Squad Manager ## **Club Performance** No judo competitions or other events were possible after the British Schools Championships on 14[th] /15[th] March due to the COVID‐19 pandemic. A number of events earlier in the year were also cancelled or postponed. In the reporting period representatives of Medway Park Judo Club competed at a total of **4** events, winning a total of **10** medals: - **4** Gold Medals - **3** Silver Medals - **3** Bronze Medals A number of club members remain representatives of the Regional England Development Squad, Southern Area Squad and/or Kent Squad. Two club members are also representatives of the Police Sport UK National Squad. 3 Medway Park Judo Club participates in the British Judo Association Grading Pathway. Opportunities for players to grade was significantly limited by the COVID‐19 pandemic. A total of **13** sho, mon and kyu grade promotions were made in the period covered by this report. - **1** sho - **11** mon - **1** kyu While there were virtually no opportunities for competitive promotion through the Dan grades in 2020 due to the COVID‐19 pandemic, players have continued to accumulate points towards their next promotion at Dan gradings held in January‐March. ## **Events Hosted** The hosting of events at Medway Park Judo Club and at Medway Park Leisure Centre was significantly limited by the COVID‐19 pandemic. A number of events were scheduled then postponed or cancelled.
