## **Section D Achievements and performance**

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Camden Fencing Club is one of the UK's most successful fencing clubs offering lessons in sabre and foil to children, adults and veterans. We welcome beginners and experienced fencers of all ages covering a broad range of abilities from those starting the sport to members of the GB national teams. Our programmes are aimed to help people realise their true potential.

With professional coaches we run 5 youth, 4 adult sessions and one women's squad session per week. We have over 200 members and visitors participating in our Club.

Camden Fencing Club has worked hard to create a programme to support fencers on the journey to the Olympics and support the Club.

During the year the Club organised a summer coaching camp in Italy for members, providing an excellent opportunity for skill development and team building at an international level.

The London Borough of Camden is concerned about inactive youth, and we are delighted to provide after school fencing sessions. Evidence suggests that fencing is uniquely positioned to attract an inactive population that is uninterested in sport. Fencing is a strategic sport, almost like a physical form of chess. It teaches young people to think for themselves and to analyse the way other people think.

Fencing is an activity that gives girls the opportunity to master challenges, boosting their self-esteem and resilience. Fencing takes attention away from looks and instead puts the focus on physical fitness and improving technique.

We would like to recognise those who have supported the Club through donations, in particular a generous donation received in November 2024, as well as the talented fencers who have competed in our wonderful sport both in the UK and abroad.

## **Section E**

## **Financial review**

> **Brief statement of the** Income for the year was £95,815 (2024: £94,625), broadly stable year-on-year. **charity's policy on reserves** Membership, lesson and visitor fees were £80,447 (2024: £70,627), reflecting continued demand for fencing coaching across all age groups. The Club received donations totalling £14,774 (2024: £10,351), including a significant donation of £12,496 in November 2024. Total payments were £100,168 (2024: £77,553), an increase principally due to higher hall hire costs (£46,181 vs £33,035) reflecting increased use of facilities, and the costs of the annual coaching camp in Italy (£8,184). Camp income of £8,525 had been received from participants in the prior financial year.

The net deficit for the year was £4,353, reducing closing cash funds to £15,251 (2024: £19,604). We note that if we exclude the costs in 2025 (and income in 2024) of the Italy camp, the surplus would have been £3,831 in 2025 (and reduced to £8,547 in 2024). The trustees maintain a reserves policy of retaining sufficient funds to cover the Club’s ongoing commitments and will monitor the cash position going forward.
