| Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
The objects of the charity are: 3.1 to promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Horncliffe and the surrounding areas the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants; and 3.2 to promote for the benefit of the public the conservation protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment. and to carry out these purposes through establishing and thereafter conserving and protecting a community wood, its wildlife, flora and fauna to be known as Grinham's Wood at Horncliffe, for the benefit of the public. |
|---|---|
| The charity has substantially developed its plans over the last two years establishing five initial phases to its project and commencing delivery of those. The five initial phases are:- Phase One - Woodland and Wildlife Phase Two - Commemorative Benches Phase Three - Fishing Shiel Memorial Phase Four - Fishing Coble Memorial Phase Five - Stalwarts Wood It is anticipated that these will benefit the public by delivering environmental and wildlife benefits and community benefits, remembering members of the community who went to war and many of whose families have a continuing connection with the village of Horncliffe. Of these, progress on the ground has been made with Phases One, Two and Three and progress continues on those Phases together with Phases Four and Five. Grinham's Wood is planted and in 2025/26 substantial restoration works have been carried out to a riverside fishing shiel. Initial work on the installation of commemorative benches is progressing with sites being identified and materials being ordered. Research continues into the families to be commemorated by those benches. In progressing the project, the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit and consider that public benefit is delivered by all of the activities of the charity. A website has been established athttps://www.bagw.co.uk/. Fund raising towards the completion of the project has also progressed and the charity is very grateful to all those individuals, trusts and foundations and others who have supported the project. It is also grateful to those landowners through which paths run who have permitted the charity to instal benches etc. The trustees are very encouraged by the progress now being made. |
