## **TRUSTEE’S REPORT**
This report will cover the period from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023. The report has been prepared in compliance with the Charities Act 2011 and the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008.
## **Charitable Objectives**
To advance public education in, and appreciation of, dramatic arts through the production and presentation of public performances.
To develop and encourage an interest in theatre, literature and history, in particular but not limited to young people.
## **Aims**
Not Cricket entertains and educates through theatre and associated creative arts. Working with a range of educational, heritage and community partners, the company revives classic texts and forgotten historical narratives. All of its work is based on rigorous research and the company is always seeking new locations and stories.
## **Activities**
Following on from the development of the script in 2022, Not Cricket performed _Three Men in a Boat_ for a nine-day run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2023. This was a faithful but irreverent adaptation featuring four women and a real dog, with the latter stealing the show during most performances. The company also trialled an outreach performance in an Edinburgh care home, an experiment that proved to be successful, both in terms of working with a pared down set and the positive engagement of the residents. Audience reviews across the run were encouraging and the company hopes to revisit the work in the future with some minor adjustments.
_Three Men in a Boat_ formed part of a partnership with C ARTS and members of Not Cricket also worked with their in-house company, C theatre, on two of its three Fringe shows, _The Railway Children_ and _Shakespeare for Breakfast_ . Both of these were met with critical acclaim and received Offie nominations.
Towards the end of 2023, a new bank account was opened with Lloyds. This account does not charge a monthly fee and will save the company money in the long term. Transfer of funds and closure of the HSBC account, however, was not completed until February 2024 due to lengthy banking processes.

The Trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit (section 4 of the 2006 Act) and through the work detailed above, they consider that the charity is fulfilling its obligations by achieving its objectives.
