Beka Welfare Trust – Annual Report for the Year 2023
Introduction:
Beka Welfare Trust is a charitable organization dedicated to alleviating poverty with two primary objectives: relieving and preventing poverty in Swindon, and providing relief, healthcare, and education to those in the Beka region of Pakistan to enable self-sufficiency. Throughout 2023, we remained steadfast in our mission.
Swindon Initiatives:
In Swindon, we actively engaged with our local community and businesses, focusing on providing essential support to homeless and rough sleepers. Our approach centered on tangible support, such as food, clothing, blankets, and personal hygiene products. This strategy resonated well with our local residents and businesses, who enthusiastically joined our cause, directly improving the lives of those in need.
During the winter months, we provided two meals a day, four days a week, to 16-20 homeless individuals in the Swindon area. These services included distributing warm clothing, blankets, jackets, shoes, socks, toothpaste, and brushes, all of which were made possible through generous contributions from our local residents.
During the holy month of Ramadan, we collaborated with local residents and businesses to provide food and water for 40-50 people daily during iftar. This initiative was a testament to the inclusivity of our efforts, as people of all faiths, religions, and ethnic backgrounds came together to support those in need.
The holiday season in Swindon was particularly heartwarming, as we distributed gifts to those in need during Christmas. Special meals were prepared by the local community, and everyone, including those without families, was welcomed to enjoy the festivities. During Christmas time, we arranged food parties and provided gift to the deserving people. The local people are engaged through all the activities.
Operational Progress in Beka, Pakistan:
In Pakistan, our efforts are currently in the documentation phase, progressing slowly due to local legal requirements. Nevertheless, we have implemented the "help yourself" policy, encouraging local residents and businesses to invest in digging wells for clean water to combat waterborne diseases. Additionally, orphaned children have been enrolled in local schools, and we are actively seeking partnerships with other charities to support uniforms, tuition fees, and other educationrelated expenses. Currently, we are talking with Rubi Gul Aghosh ( Orphanage) to work with partnership. However, they are also struggling with proper Charity Bank account. Once the matter is settle, we start proper operation in Pakistan.
Adapting to Changing Regulations:
The changing political landscape in Pakistan has necessitated adjustments in laws, rules, and regulations, impacting our operations. We are actively working to open a charity bank account and align our activities with the requirements of the Charity Commission in the United Kingdom and Pakistan. fulfilled. We are still encouraging people to help in regards of tuition fees, buy schoolbooks and uniform to the most needy and deserving students.
Trustee's Report:
Our charity's core objective is to empower beneficiaries to achieve economic self-sufficiency at minimal cost. All of our trustees serve voluntarily and do not receive any benefits from the charity. We conduct annual reviews of the charity's aims, objectives, and activities. All the transaction has been review and approve by all trustee’s.
In the year ending on December 31, 2023, we actively engaged with our local communities, businesses, and other organizations to develop strategies for assisting those in need. It became clear that local communities preferred contributing goods and food rather than monetary donations. We are immensely proud of the Swindon community's contributions, particularly during the winter when they provided waterproof blankets, warm clothing, shoes, toothpaste, and brushes. These items were distributed to those in need with the help of our local residents.
Our food projects were particularly successful, reaching a significant number of individuals during the Christmas season and Ramadan, thanks to the support of local businesses. We actively encouraged people to participate by bringing fresh food, clothing, books, and contributing to children's educational expenses.
Managing Risk:
We recognize that risk is an inherent part of our operations. However, we have taken steps to manage and quantify these risks to ensure the continued success of Beka Welfare Trust.
Our Future Project:
Looking ahead to the future, we are excited to share our plans for the year 2023/24. Beka Welfare Trust is in the process of preparing to launch education and training facilities for adults, specifically focusing on providing IT courses. We recognize that in today's rapidly evolving world, digital literacy and IT skills are essential for individuals to fully participate in our diverse society.
Many adults in our community are currently struggling with basic IT skills, including the use of MS Office tools and various digital platforms. Our forthcoming initiative aims to bridge this gap by offering IT courses in Swindon. These courses will be designed to have a significant impact on people's lives by improving their IT proficiency.
The benefits of this project are multifaceted. By enhancing their IT skills, individuals will become better equipped to find employment opportunities, as digital literacy is increasingly a requirement in the job market. Moreover, these skills will empower individuals to use technology effectively in their workplaces, thereby boosting their career prospects.
Additionally, the IT skills acquired through our courses will also be crucial for self-employed individuals. They can manage their records online, communicate via emails, and leverage various digital tools to streamline their businesses. This will not only improve their efficiency but also open up new avenues for growth and success.
In the coming year, we will reach out to our community and local businesses to garner support for this important project. We believe that by equipping adults with essential IT skills, we can enhance their quality of life, increase their employability, and contribute to a more digitally inclusive and prosperous society. We look forward to making a positive impact and fostering a more digitally
