**needs of families post-covid by**
**introducing a new online booking**
**system for groups. In addition, our staff**
**support vulnerable users in accessing**
**groups to ensure that they remain**
**inclusive.**
**In response to our users’ needs we**
**applied for and secured a grant from**
**the District Council to fund staff hours**
**so that we could provide tailored**
**groups for Dads and for mothers**
**returning to work. This enabled us to**
**run a “Time for You” group, a Family**
**Links course for fathers and to plan for**
**a monthly dads’ group.**
**We have continued to develop our links**
**with other services and organisations,**
**with the Health Visitors holding clinics**
**on our premises, support for a parent**
**run Toddler Group, Rhyme Time in the**
**Library to encourage parents to use its**
**services and activities at the local cycle**
**park supported by the local cycling**
**club. Family Learning have also held**
**courses at The Place, such as**
**workshops on play.**
**Thanks to one of our users who has**
**since become a trustee, we received a**
**grant from Nationwide to equip a new**
**sensory room. As well as using the**
**space for baby groups, families can**
**now book time there. This is proving**
**particularly valuable for families whose**

steering board have reviewed the need for
reserves in line with guidance issued by the
Charity Commission.The charity will keep
money aside as a reserve to protect the charity

ensure money is reserved for unexpected

as reserves as the Charity Law requires any
income received be spent within a reasonable
period of receipt.

**£ 40,008.46**||| ## THE PLACE ANNUAL ACCOUNTS 2022-23 ## HP CHARITY REGISTERED WITH THE CHARITY COMMISSION FOR ENGLAND AND WALES REGISTRATION NUMBER 1175671 The Corn Exchange Faringdon SN7 7HL ## **Trustee Report** The Place Charity, which is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, was set up in 2017. Its objectives are advancing the education of families through the provision of training and family support facilities and groups, provision of advice and support and guidance on issues relating to childcare. Its main activity is to fund raise for the Children’s Centre located in the Corn Exchange, Faringdon. The Charity receives grants and amounts raised by local fund raisers which it uses to fund the Children’s Centre. The Place acts also as a steering Board for the Town Council. The Children’s Centre operates in premises owned by Faringdon Town Council and is run by Spurgeon’s Children’s Charity under a Service Level Agreement they have with the Town Council. Oxfordshire County Council provided grants for the initial set up of the Children’s Centre which were held by the Town Council. The Place pay the difference between the running costs of the Children’s Centre and amount paid by the Town Council to Spurgeons, although in the initial years the amounts paid by The Place were small with costs being covered by the County Council grant. The funding from the Place Charity is expected to rise next year. A separate bank account has been set up for managing the Charity’s transactions. The Accounts are maintained on an income and expenditure basis, any material grants due or amounts due to be paid being included in the financial year’s accounts with debtors and creditors set up as necessary. Small fund raising donations are not accrued but shown in the accounts as they are received. The Charity owns no assets nor employs staff. The Charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act)) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to - Examine the accounts (under section 43(3)(a) of the 1993 Act) - Follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act); and - State whether particular matters have come to my attention. This report is made solely to the Trustees of The Place in accordance with the Charities Act 1993. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the Trustees of The Place for my work, for this report, or for the opinions I have formed. ## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Direction for Independent Examination issued by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required if a full audit was undertaken, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. ## **Examiner’s statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: - (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 41 of the Act: and - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the Act, have not been met; or - (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. **Christopher Hackett For ad on behalf of Auditing Solutions Ltd** 21[st] August 2023 3
