Links between Hoguera in the UK and the Fundacion in Medellín – Colombia, developed over the years as Hoguera members have had the opportunity to visit the Fundacion and spend time with its members. Relationships between members of the two organisations have developed and are nourished by regular news updates from the Fundacion which remind each other of the common ground and purpose.

Email, phone conversations, online meetings and WhatsApp Communication enabled effective and regular contact between Hoguera and the Fundacion particularly through Alonso Chavarría Zapata, who is the chair of the Fundacion as well as being a trustee of Hoguera.

In January 2025 Alonso Chavarría Zapata, visited the U.K. to held a General meeting of Hoguera U.K.’s trustees and other active members. Additionally, he visited the L’Arche communities in London and Canterbury to strengthen the links between Hoguera and L’Arche.

A General meeting of Hoguera U.K.’s trustees and other active members was held on the on the 2[nd] of Oct. The main topic of the meeting was to discussed concrete ways for Hoguera U.K. to continue to meet it’s charitable objectives. During the meeting, the significant and fundamental change of circumstances of each of the trustees and other active members of Hoguera U.K., which left them, practically, with no time to dedicate to the charity was acknowledged. Those changes have affected

for some years now the achievement of Hoguera objectives and it was acknowledged that those circumstances are unlikely to change for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, the financial contribution to Hoguera has fallen dramatically in 2024 and 2025 and because of trustees' changes in their circumstances, they considered that this cannot be restored. Projections for 2026 show there will be not enough funds in Hoguera to keep it going. Consequently the difficult decision to close down the charity in the U.K. was put forward. Unanimously all Hoguera U.K.'s trustees and other active members, attending the meeting, agreed that Hoguera must close down because of its inability to accomplish the objectives for which it was created as stated by its constitution.

It was agreed that the work of the Fundacion – the sister charity in Colombia, will continue in a different structure, creating meaningful inclusion opportunities in society for people with disabilities and their families.

At the end of the meeting, steps were agreed to close Hoguera U.K.

In December 2025 Robinson Muñoz (Hoguera Trustee), visited Medellin and the Fundacion. During that visit, meetings were held with the Fundacion Trustees, to discussed progress on steps agreed to close Hoguera U.K. and progress deciding the different structure under which the Foundacion will continue to operate in Colombia.

The plans for Isabel Epstein [Hoguera ambassador] and for Malcolm Burrows [Hoguera trustee], to visit Medellín and the Fundacion in 2025 were put on hold.

Section D Achievements and performance Summary of the main In 2025 Hoguera U.K. continued to offer financial support to the achievements of the charity Foundacion In Colombia. With this ongoing and substantial financial during the year support the Fundacion continued to carry out its invaluable activities with people with disability and their carers, those activities have contributed to expanding the perception of disability and people with disabilities in society by focusing on their abilities, providing timely support when required and creating opportunities for them to make a significant contribution to society. The Fundacion have encouraged the development of friendships and through them have reduced the isolation and social exclusion of members with and without disabilities who are part of the Foundacion. Furthermore, the Fundacion have established relevant alliances with academia and other private and non-profit organizations in order to promote the construction of real inclusion opportunities for all. Additionally the Fundacion have generated platforms to make visible the value of people with disabilities and what they can contribute to society when they have the appropriate and necessary support. Hoguera U.K. was thanked for its financial support enabling the work of the Fundacion over the years. However, as already mentioned, the personal circumstances of each of the trustees and other active members of Hoguera U.K. have changed substantially since it was born, thus curtailing the development of activities in the UK. Furthermore, the financial contribution to Hoguera has fallen dramatically in 2025 and trustees considered that this cannot be restored. Projections for 2026 show there will be not enough funds in Hoguera to keep it going.
