**THE PRINCIPLE OBJECT OF THE CHOIR SHALL BE TO PROMOTE, STUDY, PRACTISE AND PERFORM CHORAL MUSIC, NOT FOR PERSONAL PROFIT, AND TO FOSTER PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE AND APPRECIATION OF SUCH MUSIC BY MEANS OF THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE STANDARDS OF PUBLIC PERFORMANCE. 3[B] TO ASSIST AND SUPPORT SUCH CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS OR PURPOSES AS THE COMMITTEE SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE.**

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

**The main activity of the choir is the promotion of male voice choral singing. Membership is open to any male over the age of 16 years and they are required to attend weekly rehearsals led by a professional musical director assisted by professional accompanists. The membership is predominantly elderly (65% over 70 yrs old) and finds great camaraderie within the choir. Singing has been proven to be beneficial to physical and mental health and members derive great satisfaction from their weekly rehearsals. During our annual planning of events the trustees ensure the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit is adhered to. The rehearsals provide a platform to perform our own concerts and to go out into the community performing concerts for local charities, churches and many fundraising organisations. Entry into competitions and music festivals is an important feature of the choir’s life and provides a measure of the choir’s capabilities and prowess.** 

**For the past five years, at the choir annual general meeting, the choir has selected a charity to support and has raised in the region of £3000 each year for the chosen charity through staging concerts, collections, raffles and during lockdown, a weekly quiz for members, patrons, friends, family and supporters.**

**We are extremely grateful to our musical director, secretary, quiz master and all the members for keeping the choir together since the beginning of the Covid pandemic. Meeting on Zoom has enabled the membership to continue to learn new music, refresh old favourites, maintain the friendship found within our ranks, especially providing company and support for those who live alone, are isolating or have become bereaved during the pandemic.**

**During the lockdown period the choir’s public activities were Summary of the main curtailed but besides our charity fundraising mentioned above achievements of the charity during the year we have performed two virtual St. George’s Day Concerts and a Concert of Remembrance which were made available to our supporters on YouTube. A great achievement for “elderly” non tech savvy gents.**

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves** 

**The choir’s income is generally £15k to £20k and our income and expenditure over many years has allowed us to keep a small reserve which is eventually used to progress the choir. For this accounting period, income was increased by a bequest from a supporter and has given stability to the choir finances during a difficult period.**

**The charity’s funds are predominantly subscribed by its members, patrons, through concert fees and 100 club subscriptions to a monthly draw.** 

**The choir’s key expenditure is payment to professional staff and the purchase of music pieces. The hire of the weekly rehearsal room which includes limited storage for our music library and equipment is also a considerable expense.**
