The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” (FRS 102) in preparing the annual report and financial statements of the charity. ## **Objectives and principal activities** Gateshead Football Club Community Foundation is a Registered Charity, the objectives of which are: - 1 To promote community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for the playing of association football and other sports capable of improving health (Facilities in this means land, buildings, equipment and organising sporting activities). - 2 To provide and assist in providing facilities for sport, recreation or other leisure time occupation of such persons who have the need for such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interest of social welfare and with the object of improving their conditions of life. 4 ## **Achievements and Performance** ## Walking Football Over the last 12 months the Foundation has run a total of 358 walking football sessions over 9 venues throughout the borough including 20 sessions specifically for women and 30 sessions for disabled participants. This equates to a 43% increase in sessions over the previous year due to demand. Currently there are 140 male participants and 10 female participants. ## Holiday Activities and Food Programme During school holidays, the Foundation ran a total of 22 football coaching camps at an average of 60 children per session. Each session was from 10am until 2pm. Funding was provided by Gateshead Council’s Brighten the Day Project, The Greggs Foundation and the Wellbank Foundation, the Foundation provided the coaches and the activities. These camps also included cookery sessions by the Nourish Food school to promote nutrition and healthy eating. The Foundation also ran 9 free pop-up football sessions at Felling park with the support of the friends of Felling with an average of 30 children attending each session. Free family trips to St James Park, Adventure Valley, and the Christmas Pantomime were also organised by the Foundation for children and families. During the summer holidays free breakfast clubs for families were also held at Bensham Grove along with numerous crafting days including a Fairy tea party and Paddington’s birthday party. Attendances have increased at the breakfast clubs by 50% over the last 12 months with an average of 60 attendees per breakfast club. 5 ## Schools Project The Foundation has worked with Gateshead Schools Sports Partnership to deliver P.E. lessons and after school activity sessions to 10 schools, with over 300 children learning new skills and building confidence in a fun and friendly environment. ## Outreach Youth Programme The Foundation continues to run a football coaching session on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings for underprivileged children in the Teams, Chopwell and South Shields. A total of 50 children attend these weekly sessions. An Outreach family session continues to run at Elgin Centre and where both children and parents engage in sporting activities. _**“Our young people recently engaged in a course of football coaching sessions with Gateshead Football Club Foundation and they have enjoyed it very much. Each week they came ready and excited to go and each week they all gave it their best. As youth workers we noticed the young people bonding with each other through football and working together as a team, this has carried on through the winter months within the group which is a testament to how much the football sessions helped them gel. Throughout the sessions we also witnessed a few of the group who were originally more shy come out of their shell and really get stuck in. Overall it was a fantastic experience for our group, fostering healthy activities, a boost in their wellbeing and a definite boost in confidence for some of our quieter young people, Ben was fantastic with the, patient and always reassuring, rewarding them when necessary too. We can't wait to run it again next summer. “**_ ## _**Chanise Armstrong Youth Worker Chopwell**_ ## Children’s Educational Activities Throughout the school holidays the Foundation ran several educational activities including storytelling, crafting and gardening. The foundation partnered with The Newcastle Keep to educate children on growing up in medieval Gateshead, During the sessions children were taught about food, cookery, music and Knightslore and participated in a number of practical activities. The Foundation also partnered with Network Notwork to run a Junior Journalism workshop with a group of children from South Street school. _**“Following your visit for the journalism workshop and the visit to the Live Theatre this week I just wanted to send you an official thank you from everyone at South Street. The children absolutely loved both experiences - they gained experiences last week that school could not usually provide. The staff too have absolutely loved being involved in these experiences and seeing the children achieve so much.**_ 6 _**Experiences like these help to raise aspirations and show our children future possibilities. It is amazing that the Gateshead Foundation is providing experiences like this for the town's children.”**_ ## _**Lynne Wales Head South Street School**_ The Foundation again partnered with the National Literacy Trust to run the Stadium of Stories event at Gateshead stadium which provided not only sporting but educational activities throughout the day. ## Adult Educational Activities The Foundation has run a number of free adult cookery classes throughout the year for the local community in partnership with the Nourish Food School. The classes were run over a number of weeks where the participants learned to cook a number of nutritious meals using both slow cookers and air fryers. At the end of the classes each participant received a free slow cooker and air fryer. 7 ## Back to School Project During the Summer holidays the Foundation worked with the Ballenger Trust and Amazon to help to support 128 children with back to school essentials such as school uniforms, shoes and stationery. ## Breakfast clubs The holiday breakfast clubs remain a huge success with over 50 participants at each of the 12 clubs we ran over the year. ## Pilates The popular ladies Pilates session has continued on a Friday morning at Bensham Grove Community Centre with currently 12 participants. ## **Structure Governance and Management** ## **Trustees** The Trustees who served during the year covered by this report were as follows: E Fawcus N Pinkerton S Thornton 8 T Wilson I Wilson P Clennell D Dixon M Coulson ## **Governing document** The charity is governed by its constitution incorporated 1st November 2017. The company became a registered charity on 3[rd] November 2017. ## **Corporate status** The charity is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). ## **Statement of the Trustees’ responsibilities** The trustees are responsible for preparing the Report of the trustees and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). The law applicable to charities in England and Wales, the Charities Act 2011, Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year, which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to: - select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; - observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP; - make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; - prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the company will continue to operate. The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. ## **Financial Review** We are currently operating with minimal funding and donations, but we are hoping to grow by looking at all avenues of funding available. We have managed to control money and use it effectively to run the Community programmes. 9 We rely heavily on our dedicated team of unpaid volunteers and helpers. Our financial information, with details of how and where we have spent our money, is contained within the annual accounts on the Charity Commission's website and as part of this report.
