We, as a worshiping community, have been reassured by God's promise and His victorious right hand has enabled us to continue our activities in "the new normal" As a worshiping community, we were able lo experience and witness God's amazing grace and mercy during the year under review. Covid 19 virus and ils variants continue lo impact all aspects of life. Medical advances and comprehensive vacclnallon programs have lessened the suffering among people. Threat of war in Europe dominated news media during the latter hall of the report year. Despite the best ettorts ol the world leaders, conflict between Ukraine and Russia couldn't be prevented, causing major displacement of people, many innocent life lost and destruction ol property and infrastructure. It is predicated that Ihe economic lalloul from the war and the pandemic will continue lor years to come. On sm May 2021, Padmabushan, His grace, the Most Revd Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Marlhoma Valiya Metropolitan was called lo his eternal home at the age 01103. Beloved Valiya Thirumeni was a guiding light in the life of the faithful as well as the nation lor nearly a century. But those who wait on the Lord, Shall renew their strength., They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40.'31 The Council of Mai Thoma Parishes in UK and Europe, continue to monitor the impact of the economic lalloul from the various global and local events. As of now we had minimal impact on our ability to function as a UK and Europe Zone ol the Mar Thoma Church. The Council of Mar the Thoma Parishes in Europe ICOMPEI is a unique instrument of the MarThoma Church instituted for conducting effective administrative coordination ol all Panshes and Congregations of the Mar Thoma Church in UK and Europe Zone in the diocese of Mar Thoma Church North America and Europe. The following annual report is presented here as a fulfilment ol Clause 4 01 the rules of the COMPE. Governance and Administralion 2. 1. Dlocesan Eplscopa. Rt Revd Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa continued to serve as our Diocesan Bishop and Presidenl of the Council ol the Mar Thoma Parishes in UK and Europe. His Grace was able lo spend an extended period ol lime in the Zone during the months of May - June 2021. His grace visited parishes and congregations and provided pastoral care, episcopal oversigm on all our spiritual needs and adminislrative matters. External Auditor Annual General Body (Assembly) Meeting and Council meetings The Annual General Body meeting of the Council ol Mai Thoma Parishes in Europe (Assembly of the Mar Thoma Church UK - Europe Zone) was helii on 171h September 2021. Due lo covid and associated reslriclions on in person gathering, the meeting was conducted online as per the guideline sel by the Charity Commission, UK. The Annual Report for the year 151 April 2020 to 3151 March 2021 and the AnnLJal Account with an income of £129,895.40 and expenditure of £23,038.62 was presented and passed. The Annual Budget lor the year 2021 2022 with an income of £ 778,001.13 and expenditure £157.630.00 was presented and passed. 3.1 Key Declslons at the Zonal Assembly. Elected / appointed internal and external audilois for 202112022. Also confirmed that the internal auditors will remain in office lill the end of 2023. Resolution was passed to request the Metropolitan and the episcopal synod to appoint an ordained minister of the Mar Thoma Church as the youth chaplain lor UK and Europe Zone. An increase of 5% lo the Mar Thoma Centie piojecl cost was agreed. This was in anlicipation ol the predicted inflation in building material and labour cost. 3.2 The Zonal Council Meetings The Zonal council officially melfourtime5 during the year under review. The council meetings were chaired bythe President and Diocesan Bishop Rt. Revd Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos and in his absence by Very Rev PT Thomas, Vice President chaired the meetings. The zonal council have taken timely decisions in executing the programmes and objecb'ves set by the zonal assembly. Zonal Centre Development Update As per the decision of Ihe zonal assembly to acquire a residenlial property lo serve as the zonal office and bishop's residence, a suitable properly was identified at149a Ashgrove Road, Ashford, Middlesex. MAR THOMA CHURCH UK & EUROPE ZONE The contract for the purchase of the land togelher with the construction of a 4 bedroom detached property with 4 car parking spaces was signed on February 2022. The foundalion stone, which was blessed by ihe Rt. Rev Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenous episcopa on10th May 2021, was laid by Very Revd P T Thomas on 1 Olh February 2022 after a short service ol player and thanksgiving led by Very Revd P T Thomas and Revd Binu J Varghese. The building work is progressing well with an anticipated completion by 4th quarter 2022. Details of the building funds received and expenses incurred are provided in the financial statement. We acknowledge the work of the building work committee consisting, Mr PM Malhew as Convenor, along with Revd Binu J Vaighese and Adv. Jacob P Abraham as members. Zonal Programs and Activities At the beginning of of the year under review, UK and Europe was still in the grip of the global pandemic. With the restriction in person gathering, Zone was able to successfully initiate and conduct a number of programs and events with the use of digital and social media plattorms. These events and piograms have made it possible for us to connect wrth our membership and offer spiritual and pasloial support. 5.1 Zonal InterGessory prayer. In the midst ol national lock down bioughl on by COVID19 pandemic, when we as a worshipping communlty was not able lo attend the church services, the Zone Ljnder the direction and guidance of the diocesan bishop, the Zonal Councll initiated weekly online intercessory prayer. Inaugural session was on Sunday, 291h March 2020, 8 pm and we are happy to report that by the grace ol God il has continued wilhoul fail till November 2021. Alter a short break lor Christmas and New year period, the intercessory prayer session has restarted in February 2022 with a new schedule. As per the new schedule, zonal intercessory players are held of 1¥1 Sunday of every month. The parishes are assigned in turn to lead the prayer session. The intercessory prayer sessions, consists ol praise, short message, meditation and prayer were a timely source ol comfort, strength and solace lo all those who attend, especially to our sisters and brothers working in the frontline with NHS and the care sector during this challenging time and lo those who were affected by the virus. In addition, prayers were said loi global peace and reconciliation among nations of the world. Revd Binu J Vaighese served as Ihe cooidinalor tor the Zonal inleicessoiy prayer. 5.2 Zonal Conventlon and Zonal Sunday By the grace of God we were able to conduct the Zonal convention and Zonal Sunday on the online plattorm in a blessed way. 5.2.1 Zonal Convention. The Zonal convention was held on digital plattorm from 241h to 26th September 2021. Our Zonal Vice President Very Revd PT Thomas delivered the inaugural message. Revd Sibu Pallichira delivered the main convention messages on 241h and 251h September 2021. Final session on 26th September 2021 of the convenkn'on was presided over by our diocesan Episcopa Rt Rev Isaac Mar Philoxenos. MAR THOMA CHURCH UK & EUROPE ZONE Messages by Revd Sibu Pallichira and Revd Mathews Scaria were bolh inspiring, thought provoking. Presence and parlicipation by our diocesan bishop and all the clergy frorll Ihe Zone was a great blessing. The convention sessions were well attended. Revd Binu J Vaighese served as Zonal Convention coordinator. 5.2.2 Zonal Sunday. Sunday 26th September 2021 was celebrated as Zonal Sunday. Our diocesan Bishop Rt. Revd Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenous Episcopa lead the online worship service, Around 450 families joined the service from all parts of UK and Europe. li was an occasion lo Ihank God almighly lor his grace and mercy in sustaining us as a worshiping communtiy in UK and Europe. The YOUMAT, the ministry among both domestic and international student was lormally inaugurated by the diocesan bishop on this occasion. 5.2.3 Honouring Frontline Workers A significant number of our members are working in the heatth care profession as doctors, nurses, paramedics and care workers. Frontline workers were acknowledged lor their dedicated service during these challenging times and formally honoured them lor their service to the community. 5.3 Zonal Carol Service. The zonal Christmas carol service was held on 281h December 2021. Rl. Revd Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa led the service and delivered the Christmas message. It was a service of readings and carols Wlth the contributions by all the parishes and congregations as well as all the organisations of our Zone, along with the carol of Zonal Choir consisting members from our parishes and congregations. The carol service was held on digital platform and around 400 lamilles lolned the servlce online. The carols presented by the choirs, the readings and the message by the diocesan Bishop were a great source of inspiration and the program brought to a fitting end to the advent season. Revd Binu J Varghese served as the coordinator lor the Zonal Carol Service. 5.4 Passlon Recltal 2021 As part of the Great lent and Passion week observations a new piogram"Passion Recital" was initiated by the Zone. Theme for Passion Recital 2021 was 'Hopelul Awaiting of the Resurrection" The program was designed lo be a meditation of the cross through hymns, liturgical chants and readings.11 was held as an online program on 3rd April 2021. Our Diocesan Bishop Rt Revd Dr Isaac Mar Philoxenous delivered the main message All parishes, congregations and the zonal virtual choir participated in the program by presenting hymns, liturgical chants and bible readings. The virtual event was well attended and appreciated by all participants. Revd Binu J Varghese and Revd Jobi Koruthu were Ihe convenors. 5.5 The Mar Thoma ECHO The Mar Thoma ECHO, published quarterly, is the official e-publicalion of UK-Europe Mar Thoma Zone. In addition to relevant news from around the Zone, it contains Bible Studies and articles related lo the faith and practices ol the Church and contemporary trends in society. MAR THOMA CHURCH UK & EUROPE ZONE We acknowledge and Ihank the editorial board, Revd Binu J Varghese, Editorial Director, Mr. Sherry Mathews, Chief Editor, Mrs. Geena Ajay, Editor, for their dedicalion and hard work in bringing this publication in a limely rnanner for the benefti of the Mar Thoma community in UK and Europe. 5.6 Zonal Website www.marthomaukeu.com The zonal website was relaunched last financial year and it is mairrtained with all relevant information of the zonal slructure, background and latest news and updates. It also provide information of the various supporting organisation at the zonal level. As part ol the relaunch inloimation on the sile was updated and is currently maintained to provide an online presence for the zonal activity and a source ot information about the church and its activities. We acknowledge and thank the leadership and contributions of Mr. Thomas Abraham for maintaining the website and keeping it up lo date 5.7 Charltable and Oulreach Programs. The Zone continues to extend a helping hand to those most in need both in India, locally at Parish level and as a Zone. 5.7.1 Covid Support Tearn In response to the Covid 19 pandemic, Zone has coordinated the formation of parish support teams to lead the outreach program. Wrth the help and support of the local parishes and youth fellowship, essential food items was distributed to international students in difficulty. In addition, a helpline was sel up to provide legal advice on their rights and enlitlemenls. 5.7.2 Covld Support to Kerala Zone also provided financial support to emergency assistance set up al Santhigiri ashram Aluva, India lor those who are affected by COVID. Essential food, Medicine and Personal protection kits were provided lo the most needy in the community Under the leadership and coordination of the Zone we were able lo raise an amount of £ 35,023.16 lor this purpose. 5.7.3 Light lo Life Project Light to Life, a project ol the Diocese ol North America and Europe that was launched in October 2017, Our Diocesan Episcopa, the Rl. Revd Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos, identilied the need of suppoitino less privileged children who were deprived ol their basic necessities ol food and education in the remote villages in different parts ol India. We as a Zone have extended financial support lor this initiative. 5.7.4 YOUMAT (Youth Ministry for Mar Thoma Students in UK & Europe) A need was identified to reach OLrt lo Mar Thoma youths studying in UK and European universiknes. The onset of Covid-19 brought addtiional challenges to the students and brought a new dimension to this identified need. Recognising ihis need the Zonal council ol UK & Europe zone under the leadership ol our diocesan bishop Rt, Rev, Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa took Ihe decision to start this ministry among university Studenls under the banneryoumal. Thirumeni officially launched the Youmat ministry on 26th September 2021. During the year various programmes were organised for the students and volunteers. The volunteers are being trained periodically. The project created short web skits and songs to reach out lo the university sludenl Iraternity for Christmas. Additionally, a job readiness session was held by Mr Rony Malhew Eappen. We have also started a weekly podcast based upon the Sunday Gospels as per the Church lectionary. 12 ANNUAL REPORT 2021- 2022 ZONE

MAR THOMA CHURCH UK & EUROPE ZONE By Ihe end of March 2022, 150 studenls were enrolled and have been supporled.The project is expecled lo reach out to many more sludents in the coming year and be a blessing for all University students. Rev. Jobi Koruthu serves as the direclor of the piojecl. Under Achen's leadership and guidance, volunleers from Mar Thoma parishes in the zone joined the project lo serve in specific areas. Volunteer mentors started reaching out to university students in June 2021. George Joseph Kottackal served as the General Convenor for the program. Mr Ali Pappachan and Dr Aneela John serve as the coordinators of the North and South Zone respecbvely. With the Youmat project, each registered university student is assione(i a mentor who reaches OLJI to them periodically, and lo whom the student can reach out lo. The Zona1 Council acknowledge and thank the leadership team and the volunteers for their dedication and commitment in providing spiritual guidance, pastoral care and support. Report Irom the Zonal and Centre-based Organisalions. All the organizations of our church functioned effectively within the Zone in line with the mission of the Church. The Zone thanks all the office bearers, committee members and volunteers of respective organisalions lor the service rendered. The summary ol their activities are given below. 6.1 Youth Fellowshlp Zonal Youth Fellowship has enjoyed a successful year in engaging with youths across the Mar Thoma community in the UK and Europe through various programs and activities. Zonal Youth Fellowship activities for the financial year 2021-2022 include the following.. Zonal Youth Conferencefiouth Sunday Celebratlons In celebralion of Youth Sunday, the annual youth conference of 2021 was an online event held over three days from Friday151h October lo Sunday 17th October 2021. The theme for this year's conference was 'Melanoia.' Returning to God" based on Luke 5.'32. Revd Merin Matthew, lecturer al Dharma Jyothy Vidya Peeth, was the guest speaker. Around 100 youths participated on each ol the three days. Chrlstmas 2021 The Zonal Youth Fellowship contributed lo the UK- Europe Zonal Christmas celebrations by presenting skit titled Living with Covid" which showed the lives of Marthomitp youths as they came out of the pandemic. The fellowship also conducted a Christmas tree competition, lor the 2nd year running. Entries were received from all around the Zone. The winners were presented with a memento and certilicale. Mrs. Steffy Rennie-Philip coordinated the event. Tackling Addictions project The Zonal Youth Fellowship recognised that the modern world presents many challenges to our youth5, including that of addictions which can vary from misuse of substances lo abusing content which is sexual in nature. The Zonal Fellowship has tasked a small sub-committee to take action to tackle this problem. The goals of this group include the education of various groups in the Mar Thoma Church about the nalure of addiction and the provision of support for youths Ihat are struggling with such issues. Lent Servlces The fellowship had organised online lent services on Sundays during Lenten time. On Average 40 youths joined the online services. They have led inrtialives in providing much needed spirrtual and pasloial support during these challenging times. During ihe Yeldo Lenl125 Days Lent), we have arranged weekly Lenten Medrtalion piogramme, which was hosted by parishes. Psalms 32..8 During the year under review, zonal Sevika Sangham, by the grace of God, were able to organise and conduct various programs in the midst of prevailing Covid pandemic and associated restrictions. Zonal Sevika Sangham continued with the chain player and fasting prayer on alternative Fridays wilhoul fail which was slailed al the beginning of the Pandemic. The members in all the churches in UK and Europe are ardently participating in this prayer. 3rd Zonal conference was held on virtual plattorm on 13th November 2021. The theme was Her Countenance was sad no more. The speaker was Revd Varghese Koshy. This was a blessed conference. The General body consisting Df all parish Secretaries and Zonal representatives was held following the conference. New office bearers Izonal committee were elected on that meeting. General body decided to extend financial assistance to Vishranthi Bhavan -Thiruvalla to help the retired Sevinis. Zonal Sevika Sangham participaled in the zonal Carol service held on 281h December 2021 and members presented a Christmas carol. On 26th March 2022 Zonal Sevika Sangham conducted the 4th Annual conference on virtual platform. The theme was Alpha Generation and faith in God. Prol Dr Achamma Mathew, Central Sevika Sangham secretary ol Marlhoma Suvishesha Sevika Sangham, delivered the main message. At this meeting Zonal Sevika Sangham bid farewell lo Very Rev P T Thomas and Revd Dr P G George and thanked them lor their spiritual guidance and great leadership overlhe last 3 years. 14 ANNUAL REPORT 2021- 2022 ZONE

MAR THOMA CHURCH UK & EUROPE ZONE 6.4 The MTC UK & Europe Zonal Sunday School The UK & Europe Zonal Sunday Schools functs'on under the guidance of the Mar Thoma Church North America & Europe Diocesan Sunday School and Mar Thomas Sunday School Samajam. Due to Covid-19 pandemic all our parishes in the UK & Europe Zone conducted online services lor most part of the year in 2021-22. And as a result, OLJr Sunday Schools adopted online learning utilising various videotelephony plattorms such as Zoom, WebEx etc. All our Sunday schools proactively conducted online lessons all through the year and the total number of registered children reached just over 1,000 with approximately 200 teachers supporting the ministry. North America & Europe Diocesan Sunday School curriculum was used throughout the Zone for grade levels Nursery to 11 &12 grade lor the 2021-2022 academic year. The Mar Thoma Church Our Foundation and Vision was also used to teach church history to our children. Zonal team look the responsibility lor printing and distributing curriculum books and all other resource materials lo all our parisheslcongregations. The zonal exam was on Sunday 4th July 2021, question papers and marking schemes for all classes were prepared and distribuled to all parisheslcongregalions by the Zone and each Sunday School took responsibilrty for conducting the exams whether online or offline. Similarly individual Sunday schools look responsibility for paper valuation and prize award. Zonal VBS 2021 was held from 291h lo 3151 July and the theme loi the VBS was Let's Rebuild the Wall (Nehemiah 2.'17bl. Revd Noble Abraham (Director, Kamshet Mar Ghrysostom Ashraml was the director. The sessions were held online utilising the WebEx plattorm, There was good participation from all our parishes and congregations and over 300 children attended the VBS. The World Sunday School day celebrations was organised by the Zonal Sunday School as a joint get together of children and teachers on Sunday 31 $1 October 2021. Due to prevailing pandemic it was conducted online via the WebEx platform. Around 250 Children and 100 teachers attended this event. Sunday School Samajam General Secretary Revd George Cherian and Assistant Secretary Revd Tony Eapen Varkey led the sessions during the programme. Ecumenical Relationship Mar Thoma Church UK and Europe Zone is a lull member of Church together in England and Churches together in Britain and Ireland. Revd Dr. P. G. George represented the Mar Thoma Church in the Churches Together in England, enabling group meetings. Revd Dr George also participated in the CTE forum 2022, the biggest ecumenical gathering in the country. More than 300 delegates from CTE'S national member churches, Bodies in association and partner organisalions met lo discuss 'Reconciling Hope.. A broken church for a broken world" viewed through the lenses of racial justice and the climate emergency. Forum ended with a renewed commitment that the church is ready to serve the broken world. The first UK & Europe Zonal Ecumenical meeting of representatives Irom different parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland was held on Saturday1 si May 2021 from 2.30 pm lo 4 pm. The meeting was inaugurated by His Grace the Rt. Rev Dr Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa. The Revd Dr Callan Slipper, National Ecu- menical Advisor ol CTE was at hand lo explain the A Tool Kil lor A Flexible Framework for Local Unrt in Mission produced by the CTE. Around 60 persons participated in this ecumenical online gathering from Parishes and Congregations in UK and Europe. News from Parishes and Congregations All the parishes and congregations in our Zone funclione(i actively and engaged enthusiastically the mission and ministry of the church. Following parishes were able to accomplish notable achievements in the development of the parish. 8.1 Elevation of New Parish: Immanuel Mar Thoma Church - Cardifl, Wales. Cardiff congregation was elevaled lo Ihe status of parish of the Malankara Mai Thoma Syrian Church fiom161h September 2021. Immanuel Mar Thoma church is the first parish of the Mar Thoma Church in Wales. 8.2 Sl James Mar Thoma Church London completed the St James Mar Thoma Centre redevelopment at167 Avery Hill Road, New Eltham, London SE9 2EX, as a place of worship/multi use lacility and parsonage. Building project was completed in 2020 and consecrated as a place of worship on 8th May 2021 by Rl Rev Dr Isaac Mar Philoxenous episcopa. The new parsonage which is part of the centre was also blessed by the diocesan episcopa. 8.3 Carmel Mar Thoma ChurGh - Llverpool Carmel Mar Thoma Church Liverpool acquired a church building and after completing nec8ssaiy alterations and modifications, dedicated as a place of worship on 2fid May 2021. The service ol dedicalion was led by the diocesan Episcopa Rl Fiev Dr Isaac Mar Philoxenous. The newly acquired parsonage was also blessed by the diocesan episcopa on the same day. 8.4 Hermon Mar Thoma Church - Mldlands Hermon Mar Thoma Church Midlands bought a residential property as their parsonage. The diocesan episcopa Rt Rev Dr Isaac Mar Philoxenous led the dedication service on 171h May 2021. Tribute Late Lamented Most Revd Dr Philipose Mar Chrsotom Valiya Metropolitan Most Revd Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom, Valiya Melropolitan was called to his elernal home on 5th May 2021. Valiya Metropolitan was one of the longest serving bishops of the church. An outstanding and farthful servant of the Lord wrth a genuine humanitarian outlook and global vision. Valiya Metropolitan was credited with lormulating and implementing many projects to improve the social and economic condition of the poor and deprived. His Grace touched people with his kindness, compassion and service. A pleasant attitude and unique style of speaking, filled with humour endeared Ihirumeni to people. A special prayer meeting was held by the Zone on 5th May 2021 to commemorate the life of late lamented Valiya Metropolitan and thank God Almighty for his services lo the church and the community at large. The thanksgiving prayer was led by Ihe diocesan blshop Rl. Revd Di. Isaac Mar Philoxenous Episcopa and assisted by the clergy in the Zone. 11. Finance Detailed financial slalemenl including income and expenditure (Total Income.. £232,633.20 Total Expenditure.. £ 77,049.851 and balance sheet are given separately. We remember wrth gialitude all those who contributed lo the functioning of the Zone and all ils chantable and humanitarian aclivilies. We as a church are blessed with able leadership. The blessings, vision, guidance and suppoil of our Metropolrtan, Most Rev Dr Theodosius Mar Thoma and the Episcopal Synod enabled the Zone lo grow as worshiping community. Rt Rev Dr Euyakim Mar Coorilos Episcopa and Rt Rev Joseph Mar Barnabas Episcopa were installed as Suffragan Melropolilans ol the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church on 18th July 2021. We offer the newly installed Suffragan Melropolilans God's abundant mercy and grace in leading the church in years to come. Dn. Stanley Malhew John was ordained as Kasheesha of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian church on 1 $1 May 2021. Rt Rev Dr Isaac Mar Philoxenous episcopa led the ordinaknon service. Revd Stanley is the first person from UK and Europe Zone lo enlei full time ministry ol the Mar Thoma Church. Dn. Subin Mathew Parayil was ordained as deacon on 141h March 2022. Dn Subin is Ihe 2nd person from UK and Europe Zone to enlei lull lime ministry of the Mar Thoma Church. We ollei our congratulations and pray thal Revd Stanley and Dn. Subin be filled with the Holy spirit to be a good and faithful servant of Ihe Lord.
