Chairman's Re
ort
Another year, another annual report- which, in some ways, Is a reiterdtion of
last yea r's I
Thanks to all the volunteers who turn up week in, week out, come rdin or shine,
to look after the gardens. Weeding, plantin& harvesting - that never ending
cycle ! As always we could do with more volunteers. I nevitably we lose some,
butthis yearwe'vegained a few more and on balance the numbers remaln about
the same. Unfortunately the pressures of modern life seem to preclude the
younger people havlng the time to be involved. Welcome to those who have
jolned us, and everyone please continue to spread the word.
Thanks to the trustees and officials who do sterllng work behind the scenes to
keep the organization going. To Georgie, our honorary secretary. To Tony. Our
treasurer, and his assistant, Linda, who keep control of our finances and prepare
the annual returns required by the Charity Commission. Welcome to Gwllym. co-
opted as a trustee this year and up for election this year along with myself, Peter
and Michelle, who have all agreed to stsnd for re-election
A special mention goes to the team who have made a great job of renewing the
ra5sed beds, fences and paths, and have now started on the strawberry beds -
all viclims of time and weather. And thanks to all the other volunteers who,
apart from the slzeable tssk of maintaining the gardens, help with cleaning,
catering, and maintenance. To those who look after the bookshop, which makes
a significant contribution to our finances, along with the plant stsll which is
always kept well stocked by Sardh.
Spring is here. Visitor number appear to be on the rlse. The gardens are looking
excellent. Disruption by the building work Is over. The houses are all sold, apart
from Mawson Lodge whlch remalns unoccupied. The future of The Manor itself
is uncertsin as a result of financial difficulties of the business occupying it. Who
knows what the next year will bring P What we do know is that we're all gettlng
older and an injection of younger volunteers must be essential to our continued
existence.
So,.
on behalf of The Friends of Burton Manor Gardens, thank you to all our
supporters. Keep coming I
