Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

Wolfie’s Legacy have always aimed to benefit the public by providing interaction with canines, even when their circumstances may not allow them to own a dog. We have attended several large events to educate children about disabled dogs. One such event was Dogfest in June, where over two days there was a gate of thirty two thousand plus. We have also introduced dogs at our local pet superstore, where we will be covering every other weekend until Christmas. Our aim is ultimately to ensure homes for the dogs, but we find some of the dogs make wonderful ambassadors for the charity, and so for a while they will work, to teach the public that there is a dog for everyone, and a keeper for all dogs.

This year we met a wonderful older gentleman who told us that nobody would let him own a dog because of his age, he is eighty-four years old and he is also registered blind. We had in our care at the time an extremely beautiful female dog of ten years named Marta. They were made for each other, and the gentleman’s seventy nine year old wife takes Marta out for strolls each afternoon. His wife is a very slim and fit pensioner. The gentleman had asked for a fluffy dog so that he could run his hands through her fur, that way he felt he could see her. It is now proven that dogs are beneficial for our health and wellbeing; we try never to turn down a potential adopter, but rather match a dog with similar needs to theirs.

Also this year we placed a miniature poodle with cerebellar hyperplasia, into a home with two sons with autism. The boys are now both in their early twenties. One with a mental age of seven, and this dog has become the most important part of his day. He has managed to get a placement on a special needs farm due to his love for animals. He calls it work and he has become a far more confident person because of it. We hope in the following year to find many more opportunities to show the dogs and teach the benefits of keeping one.

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

In 2022 (as with previous years were COVID allowed) we attended DogFest for two days along with some of our volunteers. The helped to further raise awareness. As with previous years we met a number of new adopters at the event and a number of dogs are now in their forever home as a result.

We have also done several “fun days” at local supermarkets and these were supported by our volunteers.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

The last year has been a very productive one for Wolfie’s Legacy, rehoming dogs that have been with us for a long time and with increased awareness we have been able to support the rehoming of more British born dogs than ever before.

Finances continue to be healthy with some additional funding from a Just Giving campaign to support our plans for a rehabilitation and adoption centre.

The Just Giving campaign took off after the ITV show “This Morning” did a segment called “Furiends” with Dr Scott Miller.

The TV segment had an amazing impact on members of the public who contacted the charity with both donations and well wishes. We also received donations of equipment such as second-hand wheelchairs which have been a massive help to some of the current residents

The charity were then invited to meet a BBC team on Talacre Beach in North Wales with some of the Wolfie’s dogs looking for their fur-ever homes.

As a result of these two TV appearances we then featured in a number of local newspapers which meant that we awareness was raised more locally and as a result we have seen more offers of help from local businesses and volunteers.
