There are currently 8 serving trustees (as named below). There have been two elections March 2022 and June 2023. The last election CICC is bound by its governing document, the Constitution.

## 3.2 Elections

An independent election committee was set up to replace the outgoing trustees and to oversee election of a new set of trustees.

The election committee contacted the individual registered members of CICC to nominate up to 9 individuals for the post of trustee in March 2022 and in June 2023. The Charity commission online portal was updated with the details of the new substantial trustees. A chairman, secretary and treasurer were chosen internally by the trustees.

Further changes to the trustees was proposed at March 2021 AGM. These are going through formal approval processes.

## 3.3 Management structure and meetings

Monthly meetings are held attended by Trustees and volunteers.. Several ad-hoc trustee meetings are held when important decisions need to be made. All meetings are carefully documented by the secretary.

The last AGM was held in March 2023.

## 3.6 Risk Management

Trustees acknowledge their responsibility to manage risk. Risks are identified and discussed at trustee meetings. Current Risks identified are:-

- Lack of fully staffed organisational structure,

- Reliance on donations to cover ongoing costs,

- Lack of venue to hold activities.

Property has been purchased but needs major renovation before can be used.

Page **7** of **22**

- Systems to control risks include developing a full organizational structure and ongoing fundraising to meet the needs of the charity.

## 3.7 Finances

CICC has two bank accounts, a general expense account and a property account. Money can only be withdrawn from the property account if it is for an expense related to the property.

Money can only be withdrawn from the accounts:-

- by bank transfer, electronically signed by two separate trustees of CICC

## 3.8 Fundraising

The dominant platform for communicating with members is WhatsApp. CICC also has a twitter and Facebook account and is seeking to increase its presence on social media.

## 3.10Property

## 4. Achievements and Performance

## 4.1 During period 1 April 2022 – 31 March 2023

CICC continues working on setting up and establishing activities and events based on community needs in line with our charitable objectives; most of which overlap more than one objective. Many activities were held in person, and some remained on Zoom as requested by members due to the convenience this offers, e.g. in particular for evening exercise classes and lectur

Page **8** of **22**

## 4.1.1 Advance Faith

Many of CICC’s activities and events target advancement of faith; amongst them were weekly women’s Qur’an classes and a series of monthly lectures entitled from ‘From Islam to Iman’; delivered by one of the local Imams. Additional lectures were also delivered for Ramadan.

More details of the held activities/ events can be found under the second and third objectives as there is an overlap.

## 4.1.2 Benefit community & Establish Community Centre

A lot of effort has gone into spawning an environment at CICC’s events/ activities where Muslims from whichever background, can feel at ease with each other. Evidence of success in this endeavour can be seen through the fact that our events/ activities are often oversubscribed, and a sense of unity has built up amongst the members. During the year we held several dish parties and one catered event in June 2024. We also organised a picnic in the local park for women and children in August.

Refurbishment has continued on a building purchased for use as CICC’s community centre. This will benefit the community by offering a place where people can meet and pray, and activities can be held. The building has been extended and needs some refurbishment before it is fit for purpose. Work has been ongoing to get this done. In the meantime, all in person activities are being held in rented community halls.

CICC’s wellbeing team are still active in organising iftar hampers during Ramadan, for the elderly, disabled and families in need. This fits into our objectives by providing an evening meal during Ramadan to families who may struggle to have a good meal and to encourage a sense of belonging to a community.

## _4.1.2.1 Ladies’ Quran class_

Weekly ladies Quran classes were held on Zoom, with the aim of encouraging togetherness amongst women who are learning how to recite the Quran correctly with its rules. It is open to all women regardless of prior recitation knowledge and includes teaching the basics of Arabic to new Muslims and/ or non-Arabic speakers.

## _4.1.2.2 Revert Support Network (those who converted to Islam)_

CICC has a ‘Revert Support Network’ through which it runs a Revert Circle which has lectures once a month on Zoom so that new Muslims, or those interested in Islam can learn about the faith and ask questions. It also provides opportunity for attendees to get to know people in a similar situation and

Page **9** of **22**

to gain more confidence when mixing with the wider community. Dish parties are also held every few months to encourage friendship and prevent social isolation.

## _4.1.2.3 Annual women’s conference_

This is no longer being held due to a shortage of volunteers.

## _4.1.2.4 Youth Circle_

During this reporting period the Youth Circle was restarted. This offered children the opportunity to make new friends whilst engaging in various activities.

## _4.1.2.5 Youth Football_

## _4.1.2.8 Squash, Cycling and Exercise classes_

CICC organised opportunities for adults to engage in sport to benefit them by encouraging healthy living. Squash and cycling groups met on an ad hoc basis to play squash games or cycle together through the lovely local countryside.

## _4.1.2.9 Eid prayer in the park_

CICC encourages members to volunteer and help other Islamic organisations, e.g. Priory Street Mosque (CICA), with the facilitation of Eid prayers to benefit the wider Muslim population in Colchester.

## _4.1.2.10 Establish a community centre_

Page **10** of **22**

## 4.1.3 Religious Harmony

All of the aforementioned activities and events also aim to provide religious harmony, primarily within the Muslim Community. The Muslim community comprises of a variety of people from all over the world, with different cultures. CICC has been successful in promoting respect, understanding and religious harmony between this diverse community through the various activities and events organised. Many of our events are also open to people of other faiths or none and we run an outreach program which promote religious harmony.

## _4.1.3.1 Bereavement support_

CICC has a dedicated team that offers the community funeral and bereavement support. As Colchester Muslims do not yet have the appropriate facilities for burials, there is collaboration with Hunnabal Funeral Directors in Colchester and CICA.

## _4.1.3.2 Sisters’ Coffee mornings_

Sisters’ Coffee Mornings have not taken place during this reporting period, due to lack of volunteers and attendance. They have since restarted where Muslim women, women of other faiths or none, can get together to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee/ food; offering an opportunity to socialise and meet new people.

## _4.1.3.3 Revert Support_

The Revert Support Network mentioned above, is also part of CICC’s outreach programme and aims to support new Muslims’ integration into the wider community.

## _4.1.3.4 Eid prayers in the Park_

As a further part of the outreach program and to encourage wider community focus and better understanding of the Muslim faith, as portrayed through action, CICC aims to help other charities and the needy in the local community. As mentioned above, CICC members have volunteered to help Priory Street Mosque (CICA) run the Eid prayers in the Castle Park.

## _4.1.3.5 Iftars (Feeding the fasting)_

CICC held two Iftar dish events, to give the community an opportunity to meet each other and break their fast together in Ramadan.

Our Wellbeing team also made and distributed iftar parcels to the elderly/ disabled/ people living by themselves and to poorer members of the community. This is to aid those in need and to promote a sense of belonging within the community, for both the volunteers and recipients.
