attainment; relationship and family breakdown; poor housing (that is housing that does not meet basic habitable standards; crime (either as a victim of crime or as an offender rehabilitating into society).

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit

Our main activities are 1:1 school support for children who have experienced domestic violence or abuse, The Freedom programme for Children and the Freedom programme for Teenagers.

Through educating and support sessions with children our aim is to 'Break the cycle' of domestic abuse in families.

Public benefit statement

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit'.

Summary of the main achievements during the period

Throughout the year, we continued to facilitate our 1:1 support sessions in schools with children who had experienced domestic violence and abuse. We did this through the delivery of the children's freedom programme. A total of 250 children have been supported through the period of this report.

Our CEO wrote a new book for children "Molly and Lucas through the eyes of children" This is used in support sessions with the children.

Our Constitution was amended in April 2023, to enable us to expand our work throughout Kent.

We were also nominated for the Kent Mental Health Awards where we were recognized as Highly Commended.

In July we also published our 3[rd] book in the Molly and Lucas, through the eyes of children series.

Throughout the year we continued to hold a number of events to raise funds for our work, this has enabled us to raise the profile of the charity and bring in much needed funds through sponsorship, quiz nights, and other fundraising activities.

We were also awarded the London and South East Prestige Award Children's charity of the year title for the 2[nd] year.

In November our work was recognised when we were awarded The Kings Award for Voluntary Service.

The charity’s policy on reserves

We have an active reserves policy which is updated annually and is currently under review.

Our total reserves include free reserves, restricted and designated funds.

Our free reserves should total 25% of total organisational operating costs based on the next budget year. This should be regularly reviewed to ensure that it meets the organisation’s changing needs and circumstances.

Funds can be designated for the following items:

Designated funds should be approved by the Trustees during regular committee meetings. Approval should be documented in the Minutes.

Designated funds should be used within 2 years of their target date. If this does not take place, they should be released back into free reserves of re-approved for designation.

Financial Risk

Our main financial risk is not securing enough funds to cover our core costs.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
