The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) `Accounting and Reporting by Charities’ effective from January 2015.

Structure, Governance and Management

The charity is controlled by its governing document, The CIO Constitution for childcare providers 2013. The trustees are elected by the membership at the AGM.

Mother Goose Preschool is administered and managed by the trustees most of the trustees are parents and have an affiliation with the pre-school. The trustees continually look for new trustees with specific skills to strengthen the team.

Objectives and activities

The objective of Mother Goose Preschool is to is to support and enhance the development and education of children and young people by ensuring that we adhere to the following:

• promoting their care and safety;

• furthering and enriching their education through the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum using the EYFS framework

• promoting parental involvement;

• promoting their education and promoting parental involvement;

• promoting their health and wellbeing;

• providing services to individuals holding membership of the CIO; and

• furthering the aims of the pre-school learning alliance.

The Preschool is located in a village hall within South Cambridgeshire and has been established for over twenty years. The preschool has an excellent reputation within the local community. The preschool is currently open term time from 9am – 3pm.

The preschool is Ofsted registered and follows the EYFS curriculum. This ensures that all children under the age of five benefit from a safe secure and happy environment where they can play and develop. Enabling positive relationships, learning through play and

advocating child-led discovery and outdoor learning whenever possible is at the heart of our pre-school vision. The trustees actively promote these ideals and constantly seek to enrich the children’s learning through robust and dynamic provision.

The preschool maintains excellent relationships with the local primary school and offer additional sessions for rising fives only to ensure that they are ready for starting school, visits to the school are arranged, and children benefit greatly from our close working relationship.

In carrying out these activities the trustees confirm adherence with the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit activities.

The preschool is in need of skilled trustees and professional support, finding skilled trustees can be challenging for a small village preschool.

The challenge facing the preschool year on year is to cover running costs in line with Ofsted regulations whilst government funding remains relatively low. Increase in wages

year on year have had an impact on the running costs as well as general cost of living increases.

Reserves Policy

Mother Goose maintains a reserves policy is in place to protect relevant stakeholders in the unlikely event that the scheme’s income reduces, and the scheme is unable to continue. The amount held in reserves has been agreed to be set at covering a minimum of one term running costs and any additional contractually obligated staff costs.

Risk management

The trustees have a duty to identify and review risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.
