Oblortlv•s and Actlvltl•s Our aims The oblect of Learn to Love to Read, as set out in its 8overning document, Is, In accordance wlth Christian principle5, to advance the education of children and their families acro55 the UK, In particular but not exclusively by providing literacy support in partnership with primary schools, churches and other or8anlsations. In practice, the charity currently operates solely in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Research shows disadvantaged children are less Ilkely to read well than their more affluent peers and that poor reading skills in childhood generally result in limited literary as adults. brin8ing well- reco8nised risks of unemployment. poor health and low wage5. We forge partnerships with schools serving disadvantaged families. Government ststistlcs show that in summer 2024, 26% of Year 6 pupSls did not meet the expected standard in readin8 at the end of their time at primary school. Every Child a Reader- we strive to make that Vision a reality here in Wandsworth, alway5 workiro for the public benefit.

We are a small charity, working solely in Wandsworth and embedded in that local communlty. We generally partner with primary schools whose catchment area indudes a high proportion of Pupil Premium andlor EAL families. Our work takes place on our partner schools, premises, at local children's centres and nurseries, and online. The children who receive our one-to-one support are selected by our schools because they need additional help,- other initiatives learly years, classes and parent workshops) are more universal, though spe(ific effort Is made to encourage disadvantaged families, who would benefit most, to engage with them. We are recognlsed as beirg professional and yet unthreatenin& often en838ing families known by our partners to be relurtant or uncertain. Our work.. We want all thildren to have frequent, positive readir% experiences and to be enabled and empowered by learnlng to love to read. We want parents to become more engaged in thelr ¢hlldren's learnln8 and have the confldence and skills to support their child's readlng at home. We have a three-strand approach: We work wlth primary-a8e children who are findin8 learning to read challenglng. In thls reporting period we provided trained volunteer support across eight partner schools, Improvlng readln8 fluency, confidence and enjoyment. We work wlth pre-schoolers at rlsk of startln8 5th001 poorly prepared for readlng. We run early Ilteracy classes, Introducing ￿Mple parentsl artivitie5 to help close the 'word gap, so often seen between disadvantsged children and their more affluent peers on starting school. We work wlth paTents. equlpplng and encouraglng them to offer 5UPPOrt at home, runnln8 workshops and offerin8 Indlvldual support and regular me5sa8in8. Achlevements ind Performance We improve reading attainment, confidence and enjoyment in the primary-age chlldren we work with, by ensuring our one-to-one support from our team of trained volunteers is of the hlghest standard. Becomlng a confident reader wlll change a chlld's Ilfe. We offer parent*ngaqement acttvitie5. e.8. messaging servlces, workshops. Child￿n with Interested parents pull ahead of the rest whatever their st•rtin8 point. We provide free early literacy dasses. Children from poorer backgrounds are then less Ilkely to be disadvantaged before educatlon even beglns.
