Shoe Aid collects and redistributes unused, used, and unwanted footwear throughout the UK and World. Our aim is to reduce shoe poverty and reduce the impact on the environment from shoes sent as waste to landfill. We receive footwear from donations mainly in the UK |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Shoe Aid has continued to support other organisations proactively by supplying ‘fit for purpose’ footwear to support those most in need. Our main demand has and continues to be footwear for schools, social services, social enterprises, victim support groups, Family groups, Refugee and Asylum charities. The levels have begun to drop away due to the impact of COIVD |
| Statement confirming whether the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit |
Shoe Aid has continued to support organisations and the wider public with donations of footwear to give benefit in their lives. The onset of COVID has impacted and outbound donations had reduced. We launch for the first time this year an annual event to raise the profile of footwear poverty and how we help as a charity. The marketing pack for this campaign in included in our report, the yearly event will be called STEPTEMBER. |
Additional information (optional)
| Contribution made by volunteers |
Volunteers continue to be beneficial and crucial in the development of Shoe Aid as a growing charity. The Onsent of COVID instigated the charities decision to protect volunteers by reducing the working hours of shoe aid and allow only members of staff to provide and essential and urgent service. As the restrictions eased we have allowed volunteers back into the warehouse and followed strict guidelines |

Shoe Aid did complete a footwear poverty project with Derby city Council and schools within the Derby City region, 25 schools took part in collections of fit for purpose shoes through collection boxes located in their buildings. As we move towards the mid to end of 2020 Shoe Aid is working on the second STEPTEMBER campaign to raise awareness and funds by STEPPING UP to Footwear Poverty. With an eye on COVID we were aware of the challenges. Despite this the campaign was successful and drew in donations financially as well as footwear items too. As the local communities became more aware of SA presence in Nottinghamshire, we have seen a large increase in donated footwear to social support services linked to the local authorities, schools, social enterprise, other national charities and local business support groups. There has been a significant increase in donations from the commercial sector boosting SA ability to support more organisations, locally, regionally, and nationally. Shoe Aid has made 2 significant donations during the 2020/21 year – SA donated more than 5,500 items of footwear to support 2 major regional charities, Cash for Kids, East Midlands and Northwest England. Additionally, SA has increased its support abroad by donating in excess of 20,000 pairs of footwear to support charities and missions in North Africa, Ghana, Seirra Leone, India and Pakistan |
We completed a substantial project in partnering with Rotary particularly in the Northwest receiving over 10,000 pairs of footwear with a financial supporting the campaign.

The outbreak of COVID 19 and the effects of a lockdown has reduced our ability to donate footwear. However, with restrictions lifting and changing towards the end of the year SA has see an increase in demand for footwear. Trustees and volunteers will continue to keep SA operational during the reorganisation and develop the new plan and strategy for 2021/22. The re-organisation following changes in personnel and board members is in place, the charity continues to grow and continues to seek new funding streams and financial sponsors |
| The charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising) |
Shoe Aid receives funding from successful completion and award of community and trusts grants. We receive funding directly from the footwear industry and have completed several other more direct funding projects. STEPTEMBER and similar fundraisers are forecast to bring in sufficient revenue to remain viable and cover legal costs incurred through restructuring |
