## **Charity Name : Bethany Evangelical Church**

## **ORGANISATION**

The managing trustees of the church are elected by the members of the church in accordance with the church constitution and rules.

The names of the trustees holding office during the year to which the annual report relates are as follows:

Norman Rees (Elder and Chair of the Trustees)

Rowland Hicks (Elder and Trustee)

Anthony Lloyd Phillips (Trustee)

The trustees meet on a regular basis during the year to discuss and administer the affairs of the church. The members of the church meet once this year to receive and discuss reports of the activities of the church to ensure that church affairs are being properly administered. This year due to the age of the congregation and effects of covid, members meetings have been conducted on line.

Trustees have met only twice, the effects of covid are still affecting our ability to carry out all the objectives we desire to do, a third meeting has not been required to maintain the input of members.

## **CHARITY OBJECTIVES**

The purposes of the church as set out in paragraph 3 page 2 of the constitution are twofold:

1) The advancement of the Christian faith in accordance with the Basis of Faith, primarily but not exclusively within Clarbeston Road and the surrounding neighbourhood;

2) Such other charitable purposes as shall, in the opinion of the members of the church in a general meeting, further the work of the church.

## **CHURCH ACTIVITIES REVIEW**

During 2022/2023, the purposes of the church as set out above were expedited through its core activities. The core activities of the church were weekly Sunday worship, Sunday school, mid-week prayer meeting and bible study meeting, also a prayer meeting on a Saturday evening. These meetings were held to help meet the spiritual needs of members of the church and the wider community, and to teach the Christian faith.

As well as the regular meetings mentioned above which are all open to the public at large the church continued with other activities that were open to the wider community, at present the work among young people has been on hold, we are seeking to reopen the work but new leaders are required, previous leaders have moved to another area. When we reopen work the parents of children attending the children’s club will be invited to join in a family event, to meet the people who will be caring for their children. Once a month we held a coffee morning, which is on hold until next year when we hope to restart. We are still not able to facilitate the coffee morning or church lunches as we have in the past, so care is brought to people in need in their homes. We also have held a Macmillan Cancer Care coffee morning in the local community hall to raise awareness of Macmillan and to raise funds to support its excellent work. This has also not been possible these past two years, but we have made a contribution to Macmillan Cancer Research in 2022 and 23 instead. Various community activities provided important services and facilities for a small rural village, helping to foster community cohesion, address social isolation, teach the importance of good citizenship, as well as being an opportunity for those in the church to share something of their Christian faith with those around them.

The church has a vision for missionary work, both at home but also abroad, so we provide support to a number of missionaries and societies. We have provided support for individuals working in, Japan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Africa, Singapore, and Papua New Guinea. We also support Societies working at home in the UK; London City Mission, Christian Institute. We also support and supply the needs of children living in poverty in the Balkans. All these financial gifts were provided by the congregation. The church also visited those that were unable to attend the meetings in the church, through illness, or being in Care homes.
