## **About Us**

Lovely Heritage Down Syndrome started in 2014 as an informal group of parents and carers of children and young people with Down Syndrome. At that time, the focus of the group was to create opportunity for parents and carers of children and young people with Down Syndrome to come together occasionally to talk about their experiences and challenges, encourage each other, share information about training and networking opportunities that exist from time to time in the community and to learn from each other’s experiences. On October 18, 2017 Lovely Heritage Down Syndrome secured registration as a charity with the Charity Commission of England.

We foster the social integration of children and young adults with Down’s Syndrome, into their communities, including supporting them to develop their interpersonal social skills, friendships, play and leisure skills, independence and self-help skills, and socially acceptable behaviour. The trustees of Lovely Heritage Down Syndrome believe that social development is fundamentally important to any individual's wellbeing since the ability to socialise, to make friends and to take care of one's self, affects all aspects of one’s daily life.

By raising public awareness and education of Down Syndrome, we help parents and carers of children and young people with Down’s syndrome to develop resilience in managing fears or concerns as well as acquire essential employability skills of communication and information management.

Lovely Heritage Down Syndrome organises regular picnics to the Space Centre Preston, for children and young people with Down’s syndrome and a relaxation day out for parents of children with Down Syndrome special needs. Our family day holds every year and features various speakers and activities provided an opportunity to appreciate families and children while creating wider public awareness and education of Down Syndrome.

At Lovely Heritage Down Syndrome, we organise regular sporting activities for children and young adults with Down’s Syndrome as a means of fostering their social integration into their communities, improve the lives of people with Down’s syndrome by building their capacity to live normal and fulfilling lives. The sessions aim to improve communication skills, build self-esteem and enhance social confidence of people with Down Syndrome.

The charity’s monthly event nicknamed _‘Let's Share’,_ which started in 2018, continued during the period under review _._ Let's Share takes place on the last Saturday of every and creates opportunity for parents and carers to relax and have fun with music, dance, play and loads of fun.
