Objectlves and Actlvllles
The Foundotion's principle focus is the support of projects thot help address
the needs of young people who are. or have been, in care.
The Truslees have complied with section 21 I Ilbl of the Charitie5 Act 2011,
having due regard for the Charity Commission's guidonce on public benefit
when reviewing the Foundation'5 aims and objectives, when selling the
grant-making policy and in making awards.
The Foundotion'5 main focus is offering supporl lo individvals and agencies
working lo address the disadvontages faced by those in care ond care
experienced young odulls. The Foundation's main focus is The Christm05
Dinners. Founded in 2013, the Dinners are a nationwide initiative organised by
teams of volunteers who come togelher lo provide o mogical. fun-filled doy,
complefe with special presents and a scrumptious dinner on Christmos Day
fo care experienced young odu115 aged belween 18 and 25. Eoch of the

volunteer5 who come logether to make a Dinner in Iheir local community.
The Foundation supports these teams to moke their dreams a reolity offering

The founder of Ihe Dinner5. Lemn Sissoy OBE says: 'Mony care leavers are Sal

people from thirty-three different towns, cities and counties across England
and Wale5. Our inpul and support resulted in Dinner leams undertaking
fundraising activity which raised a further £60.397 in cash from groups and
individua15 local to their Dinner. This funding. plus the grants ond supporl that
the Foundation invested was in parl used to cover Dinner cos15 such os

Dinners made use of online gift lis15 to secure some of the gifts for Iheir Guests.,
Ihe value of the gifts donated or purchased this year is eslimated ot £48.982.
It Should also be acknowledged that many of the Dinner5 received a
considerable amount of support in kind. or benefited from significantly
discounted land in some cases, donated) food for the main meal.
While Ihese figures are impressive. the key meosure should be Ihe experience
of the Guests, ond 15 perhaps bes1 summarised by a Guest at the Bury &
Rochdale Dinner.. "Today was much more than just Christmas. It got me to
rebuild some bridges and remember thal there ore still p05ifives in life ond not
to give up when thing get hard"
We should also acknowledge Ihe immense confribution in fime and energy
made by the 165 people who octed as Dinner Steering Group member5, and
the 6CHJ plus people who acted as Helpers and Hosts. The Foundotion has no
real way fo quantify the value of this unpaid work. and perhaps we shovldn'l.
bul withoul Ihem. there would be no Dinners.
Not all Dinner5 receive financial support from the Foundation. os many have
become self-funding local projects. driven by volunteers in communilies local
to the people they serve. This is entirely in keeping with our eth05. While we
don't provide funding to all the Dinners. we do provide networking. support,
guidance and opportunities for Dinners lo be a part of a wider communily of
care and support
We continued lo work closely with Qvilts 4 Care Leaver5. sharing contact
information and leads in the run up lo Christmas. Q4CL have their own
Support ond supply agreements with each of the Dinners. which enobles
them to manoge the logistics of dislribvlion.
For a second year John Lewslwailrose worked with the Foundation through
November and December to dislribule hamper food for oll Ihe Dinners. Each
of the Dinners was linked wilh a Waitrose/John Lewss in their localily and Ihe
goods were delivered on pollefs fo the slores. The Foundalion made on offer
to support the Dinners wilh any transporl or storoge costs Ihat moy arise from
this orrangemenf, bul none took up the offer.
Operational
When the Foundation was established in 2017 the number of Dinners was less
thon a dozen, but as the initiative hos continued to coplure the imaginalion,

the workload has increased significantly and operalional changes were
required to ensure the continued smoolh running of the national programme.
As o resull, Simon Ruding, who hod acted os Secretary since Ihe stort of Ihe
Foundation stood down from his role os truslee and look up the role of CEO
of Ihe Foundation in October 2023.
