Disability Awareness with Swrt is a Charitsble Incorporated Owganisation which registered with the
Charity Commission on 13 Odober 2017. Disability Awarenesswith SFK)rt is governed by the rules and
regulations set down in its governing document as last uwlated on 21 May 2018.
The organisation started operating April 2014 as a sole trader business and reformed to a Charity
Incorporated OrganisatK)n {00) on l March 2017, gaintNd Charity Ststus on 13 October 2017.
No conflicts of interest or related party tran5aCtK)ns occurred during the accountin8 perlod.

Trustees are chosen from those people who have a s￿CIal empathy wilh its members. requirements
Whil￿ a19) having the ability and acumen to conts1t￿le towards the successful operation of this
charitable organisation.
These people are Invited to a Trnstee rneeti￿ to meet the other trustee5. after which a discussbon Is
held to see if both parties are happy for a new appointmeDI to lake place. Twstees will be appointed
for a tenn of three year&
The object of the charlty Is the preservation and protection of g(X￿ physical arKI menlal health
amongst disabled Of impaired indNKluals of any age in the South Yorkshire area for the public benellt
by making available specialist gym actw¥ilies and physical fftness training.

staff with a passion to help you succeed.
Publlc Benefit Statement
The trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission guidan￿ on public benefit repJrtinE in
deciding what activities the charity slN)uld ur#lertake. This rewrt illu5trate5 the activitie5 undertaken
to support the public benefit requirernent.
Post Covid 19, D.AW.S Su￿55 and commitment to helpi￿ disabled dients has allowed us to 8fOW
and stay true to the foundation principles through the adversty of the COVKI Pandemic. where
mainstream fitness providers have ceased.
sin￿ DAWS Community Gym succe5sfvIty linked up with the Sheffield PhysKal Activity Referral
Scheme (SPARS) in January 2020 and 5irKe ihe end of restriclions from the Covid 19 pandemi4
referrals have steadity increased. SPARS is being updated with a triage SeThI￿ being Incorporated
withln Sheff*ld City Council and OA.W.S has been invofved with this from its initial concept.
Attending f(xus groups and deli¥erin8 consumer opinionated consumer sessions, in the form of
questionnaires and online media.
We have been asked to be in publicatM)n for the People Keeping Well Project, initiated by GWS and
Social Prestriber
Many different professionals refer their clients to DAW.S throu8h SPARS such as doctors, physio's.
x)cial prescribers. and some clients even refer themselves. D.A.W.S 15 seeing more Stroke Survivors
through this scheme and the charity Cortinues to work with Stroke SuThivors on a regular I:1 basis.
Through the Stroke A550Ciation DA.W.S has been invited to attend one of their centres to delNer
Indoor Inclusive Games Sessions aiming to start September 2024.
Delivering sportin8 aarvities in several schrK•ls and at school holiday carnp5 held at the English
Institute of Sport. have become more frequent with regular bookings being taken. In February 2024
D.A.W.S started to deliver After School Clubs in safe zone archery and football. Volunteers Phil, Jake
and Ethan who are registered football coaches, ass•st with the after-school football ses5K)n
After much 5earthing DAW.S finally secured 2 venues to deliver Main$t￿arn archery. Participants
tsking part in safe zone archery have nowmadethe transition to mainstrearn arthery 5tartiTra in March
2024.
Our monthty membership at Leisure United has steadily 8TOVm frorn 23 monthty members as of April
2022 to 36 members a5 at Marth 2024 and with our Pay As You Go Members alA* ) on the increase.
Regular charity events such as DAWSS Social Gel T¢ydethers. and various raffles tsking place during
the accounting period have brought funds into the d￿rIty, as well as allowing much needed social
interaction for many of our members. friends and family.

of Sheffield's biggest exercise venues is helping Sheffield City Trnst to contractually keep favour with
Sheffleld Qty Council. These sessions are going frorn streW to Strength with numbers growir
considerably for the weekty games session&
Doncaster Deaf Tn￿ Spetialised College have Kknowledged our participation in student placement
for work experien￿ with glowing reports from the student and accompanying thaterone leading to
D.A.W.S being mentioned in their publications whith go out to frdrnil•es and other organi5ations. A
further placement will be offered when the time is ri8ht as we meet their strict criteria.

The Principal Fitness Instructor (Stephen Birkby) is a qualified Level 314 Personal Trainer, GP Referral
Exercise Instructor and specialist Disability Gyrn and Exercise Instn￿or. Stephen is a mernber of The
Chartered Instltute for the Manogernent of Sport and Phystil ActNity ICIMSPAI. Stephen is also a
member of Coaching UK and 15 a Disability Practitty)ner. Tr*re is a safeg￿rdIng Polry and slaff who
are involved with the deliveran￿ of the fitne$￿eXtre1$e sessions are DBS checked. hold
Safeguarding Certificate as well as First Aid Certificates. These are renewed in line wtth statutory
requirernents. In regard to Continuous Professional Devek)pment- Both Stephen Birkby and Tracev
Morris have passed their Coach Bowls Lthtl l and Tracey Morris passed Level 2 in Food Safety and
Hygiene for Catering.

and Diabetic Clients 6011493212. In June 2022 Ann passed the Lower Back and Pain Management
Level 4 Course. As part of Ann's Volunteeri￿ role. Ann is nowtsking referral clients. interviewing and
producing exercise proBrams to meet the needs of the indbvidualk

and heahh programmes to meet the needs of Individuals. Presently D.A.W.S is Invo￿￿ed wrth the refit
and refurb at Leisu￿ United- 2024, assisting with advice on suitable disability equipment. D.A.W.S
has also been invited to offer guidan￿ and assistance to Seven Hills Colleague in regard to makin8 the
8ym an Inclusl¥e centre for all abilitie&
D.A.W.S Is currently lnvesty?ti￿a the option of having an outside Veffi￿ for Main$t￿arn archery and
have had discussions with Sheffield City Council, GB Archery. Leisure United and Yorkshire Sport.
Havlng checked and been given the go ahead with the office of the Guinness World Record Holders
120191. the charity would still like to have an attempt at ho￿Ing the kinBest wheekhair conga and we
are sourcir8 fundin8 and support frorn extemal Imxlies to help thi5 happen. Unfortunatety to date we
have been unable to or8anise thls e¥ent but it is someth•ng we are still very much interested in doing
in the future.
To obtsin funding lo run a GP Referral Sth*me. This is something D.A.W.S is still hoping to happen.
The trustees have set target reserves of £2,Im. Free reseTves as at 31 March 2024 were £6.998.
