Business Manager’s Report

16 December ‘25

It has been a successful year for many reasons, the children have made good progress, leadership has worked hard and we are full for the numbers of staff employed.

Since joining the 2 year old expansion scheme, we have seen numbers increase and I have managed to obtain a small amount of funding towards this but my worry is that when parents are eligible to obtain up to 30 free hours for their child from 9 months old, we will lose our main income of 2 year olds, because most parents will not need/want to move their child, once they are settled in a setting.

However, since signing our new lease, we are now paying business rates, (with a reduction for being a registered charity) but this sufficient additional cost together with the cost of living rises, national insurance and minimum wage rises, finances are always a worry to try to remain sustainable. It is worth mentioning that the pressure to offer highly qualified staff, training staff must attend. High quality resources, required to be able to gain a ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection to continue to receive funding, is becoming harder, but this year has been a much more successful year because our numbers have been high and we have been full to capacity.

Enquiries from parents wanting a place for 2 yr olds are ongoing, so this looks very promising. We have a good waiting list for September and new children joining us after the Easter break.

We remain hopeful that child funding rates will increase to a proportion that helps towards the above rising expenditure we now face.

Continuation of investigating the possibility of Grants will be ongoing and looking for ways to promote our setting to attract new families will remain a priority.

I always finish my report by saying all we can do is continue to keep any expenditure within our control to a minimum and hope with the number of enquiries interested in places, we look forward to a prosperous new financial year. If we can attract the same numbers of children on our register next year, we will be in a good position to continue to offer a high standard preschool for the community.
