Chairpersons report for year ending 28[th ] February 2022

24[th] March 2022

Welcome everyone and thank you for joining us today.

So we started this financial year back in lockdown again, with numbers of attendees still well below average for the time of year. Despite this, we have had a successful year, with increasing numbers of children requiring spaces, a healthy waiting list and new-starters already confirmed for both the summer term and the up-coming Autumn term in September. We have a good combination of fee paying children, as well as those receiving 15 and 30 funded hours.

At the end of the Autumn term we were sad to say goodbye to Mrs Cartwright our Preschool leader, who left us for pastures new. I’d like to thank her for all of her hard work, passion and dedication to the children, staff and Preschool overall during her time with us. It was her focus, diligence and experience that helped us to obtain our Herts Early Years Quality standard awards in both silver and gold, and continue to be a ‘good’ setting with OfSted. The new setting are very lucky to have her, and we wish her every success in the new venture. Unfortunately, employing a new Preschool Leader has proved difficult – something which is happening industry wide - so in the meantime I’d like to thank Tracey Wartnaby and Emma Hodgson for jointly taking on the role. Between them they have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and I know that Preschool is in very capable hands. We also welcome a new member of staff - Klodjana Mullaj joined us as bank staff in February and has already settled in well to the team.

I would also like to thank all of our staff for the commitment to their roles and dedication shown to the children and their families. Early years education is an essential provision, but feels significantly underpaid and underappreciated for the amount of work, training, and knowledge involved. The department of Education introduced a new Early Years Framework in September, which the staff have got to grips with. Through getting to know each child as an individual, as well as planning and reviewing our curriculum, the staff are keen to ensure that each child in our setting will leave us with the skills, curiosity and enthusiasm to continue to learn in their education journey.

I would like to finish my report by thanking the trustees for their continued support, and the staff for their continued hard-work in making Aycliffe Drive Preschool a continued success. Well done ladies.
