St John's Church is situated in LeylarKI Lane, Leyland. It is part of the Diocese of
Blackburn within the Church of England. The correspondence address is St John's
Vicara9e, Leyland Lane, Leyland PR25 IXB. Under the terms of section 3 of the
Parochial Church Councils (Powers} Measure 1956 the Parochial Church Council
(PCC) is a body corporate and became a registered charity on11 November 2017.

The method of appointment of PCC members is set out in the Church
Representatlon Rules 2020. All church attendees are encouraged to register on the
Electoral Roll and stand for election to the PCC.
The Standing Committee is the only committee to be in place by law. It has the
power to transact the bu5ines5 of the PCC betvfftn meeting& 5ubjett to ratification

evangelistic, social and ecumenical, it provides a benefit to the public ty.

The PCC recognises that in relation to 'Risk Asses5menV. risk ts defined as the
threat of any action or event which will adversety affect an organisation's ability

The PCC recognises it requires a practical Health and Safety Policy covering
activities for ￿th the church, its surrounding ground% the church hall and
lounge. This B reviewed on a regular basi& An Accident Book is maintained.
The contents and obligations of the Equalty Act 2010 and the t)ata Protection
Act 2018 are known and complied with to the best of the PCCS ability. The PCC
is aware of its responsibilities in reS￿ct of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety)
Order 2005 in its requirement to cary out a fire assessment to identify any
possible dangers and risks. to take action to minimise the risks and to create a
plan to deal with any emergencies and alx> to write up and keep a record of its
findings and to review its assessment annually. The PCC has appointed Keith
Waring as Health and Safety Officer and Dave Champness as Data Protection

consequences efforts are constantly made to minimi5e such occurrence&
Judith Watson is also the Safeguarding Officer.
During the past year the Wardens and the PCC have considered thè major
srrategic and operational risk£ that the church fa￿ Further details can be

and steps taken to lessen those risks and to deal with any matters arising.

Twenty twenty-four was qulte a turbulent year, both 9enerally and specifically for
the Church of England ICOEI. The COE remains d&ply divided ¢Jver synod's
agreement to the Hou* of Bishop's plans to redefine the church's teachlng and
practice on sexual moralty and marriage. We wait to see fully hjw these wider
divisions and uncertainty will impact on our I￿al mintstry and church
relationsh1￿ We have also been dismayed at the stream of revelations of
safeguarding a￿Se5 and failures within the CoE- ultimately leading to the
resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury in November. We have sought to
respond locally by r￿d¢￿bling our efforts to ensure go(xJ safeguarding practice
here at St John's as well as seeking to resp)nd pastorally and prophetically- most
notably perhaps wlth markin9 Safe9uarding Sunday for the first time last year.
However. amidst the grief and uncertalnty ofthe wider COE, there has been much
to celebrate and give thanks for here at St John'& First, thanks to the incredlble
generosity of God through the sacrIf￿la1 giving of his people. V￿ finished the year
th a financial surplus (having budgeted for a signrficant shorttalll. This has
meant we can invest our Low Income Community Funding {LICF) grant into
exciting projects rather than merely covering our day to day costs.
At Easter we said goodbye to our curatq Mark Woc¥Jing a5 he moved on to take
up an Assistant Minlster role at All Hallc1*￿ Bispham. It Was such a blesslng to
have Mark with us and it has been encouraging to S￿ how Some of the areas of
ministry he invested in have continued to thrive this year le.g. Music and
YouthDOTcoml. loss of Mark has obviousty left the leadership team feeling
more stretched. However, we have also seen new people step into leadership and
ministry role& In September, Clare Pope was commissioned as an Authorised Lay
Minlster IALM) in Children,Youth. and Community Minisiry. We have also
recruited two new hdpers Sn Acorns over the past year. Our music ministry has
also continued to be shared between more people than prewously. Wè continue
to seek to help one another discern God's call for all of us into various spheres of
minisfry at St Jthn's and more ￿Thdety.

We continued Sharlng J•¥u¥ last year (tslng our Rhythm olLife approach- i.e.
wave5 of mission consi5tlng of a season of prayer, outreach initiati￿. arKI follow
up. This year, we had tsvo wave5 of mis5icn. Wave I began with the Thy Kingdom
Come global prayer initiative. We then wAcomed many of our communlty to our
free Community Fun Day, including bouncy castles climbing walls splash the
vicarl!). refreshmenty and a stall Nmth Christlan literatur& We then had a great
turn out (including at>out 60% guests) for our evangelistic pudding evenlng
where we heard a tx)werful testimony of falth. suffering, and healing from Rachel
Shellffy. This was follow*d up by guest services and a Hope Explored course which
were less well attended.
Our second wave of mission also tegan vAth a season of prayer and then fcrussed
on our HaNest celebration& We enjoyed welcoming many to a Harvest Ceilidh
and HotFot Supper and then a special 2pm guest service the next day. The
second aspect of Wave 2 vtss a new initiative.. St J¢)hn's Community Choir. A
wonderful group of people both from wtthin church and wlthout began singing
together in October, abty led by Ellen Fergu5s0n. It was ajoy to have them sing at
our Christmas Carol Service. alongside the Lost¢xk Hall Memorial Band. We
welcomed 180 people. many of whom were new visitors from the I￿al
communlty, to sing and hear the good news of Jesus c￿erall. it felt Ilke a year
where we 9rew in our culture of invitation and where more people than ever wefe
happy to accept an Invltation to explore vthat Jesus is all

As we l<)ok to the sear ahead. V￿ will umtlnue to invest in disclpleship ar
commitrnent to Prayer. viith 2025 designated as a year of prayer for growth and

lead our mini51ry to young people. Finally. we have some significant plans to
ensure our buildings are saf< accessible. and enable (rather than hirN*rl

foyer. upgrading our emergerbcy lighting and the installation of nthvTV screens in
church.
On a personal note. I ￿a$ delighted to successfully defend my PhD thesis during
my viva in November. and to eventually be avRrded my PhD In December. having
made minor corrections. l am so gratefvl for the support I have recewed fr•Jm the
leadership and c￿regatIon during my research.
