Opera dei Lumi exists to champion works, both well-known and obscure, of the Enlightenment (or Long Eighteenth-Century) by exploring their fit within the cultures of their time and representing, reaffirming and refreshing this sociological perspective in today's world.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

Opera dei Lumi makes a positive impact by bringing quality performances of eighteenth-century repertoire to a range of communities, often those culturally underserved (we have a long-standing association with Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Scottish Borders, for example). We also provide professional performance opportunities for emerging young artists.

Opera dei Lumi’s niche is in specialising in eighteenth-century operatic repertoire and Mozart in particular, something which not many other opera groups do. It is justified on the grounds that such specialism is rare and essentially does not exist outside of London, despite the resulting output yielding such unique qualities in performance.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Following a successful project in August 2022 in which Opera dei Lumi explored the influences of Mozart, ODL’s artistic director has been looking to establish a fresh and new artistic direction for the organisation. The decision was made to preserve existing funds during this period, to be rolled over to future plans. Plans for the coming seasons may include Apollo et Hyacinthus , a work ODL have had earmarked for many years; potential commissions from young composers and a deeper examination of Michael Haydn’s sacred works.
