Talensi Community Development Foundation Trustees’ Annual Report
Period: 1[st] January 2023 to 31[st] December 2023 Registration Number: 1174922
Statement from the Chair
Welcome to the 2023 Annual Report for the Talensi Community Development Foundation.
During 2023 we received two significant donations that will support delivery of our objectives over the coming years. The first was from the estate of Ann Parker with a request that it supports scholarships to study nursing and agriculture. The second was in memory of Julia Price, with request that it be used to enhance the facilities at the Tongo Senior High School.
During the year we spent £580 upgrading classrooms at the Tongo Senior High School including the installing of ceilings and fans in two classrooms. £520 was spent shipping tools, sewing machines, textbooks, shoes, and clothes to Ghana.
Two Trustees are planning to visit the Area of Benefit in early 2024. During this visit they can oversee the investment of the donation in memory of Julia Price and start promoting the Scholarships
Trustees where delighted to hear that in March 2023, pupils from the RGS Worcester linked up on-line with pupils at the Salvation Army Junior School in Tongo as part of their Ghana studies.
Trustees are indebted to those who make donations to support our work in the Talensi District and to the Royal Grammar School Worcester who continue to make donations of equipment to the schools in the Talensi District.

Objectives
The objectives of the Talensi CDF are to work with and support the Talensi community to:
-
i. ensue all young people can access and benefit from training and education.
-
ii. create opportunities for employment for all.
-
iii. provide financial and other assistance for the maintenance, improvement, and provision of public amenities.
-
iv. promote health and wellbeing.
The Foundation works with local leaders on projects that are supported by the Talensi community and help those facing hardship.
The Foundation’s final objective is to promote and support dialogue between the Talensi community and others in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, to share learning and bring mutual charitable benefits. This may be through links between schools, health practitioners, business, and community groups.
Activities and Achievements
In 2023, the CDF built on existing work to improve educational outcomes for young people by investing in local schools and shipping donated sewing machines, tools, textbooks and reading books for the library.
The partnership between the Tongo Senior High School, Salvation Army Primary School and the Royal Grammar School Worcester continues to develop and teachers from RGSW are planning to visit Ghana in 2024.
Few students in Northern Ghana have access to IT. With the donation of iPads from RGSW and the CDF providing 4g Routers and data, pupils have access to a much wider range of contemporary information from the internet to support their learning and development.
In the UK, the RGSW have identified significant benefits for their students with the link to Ghana providing them with a rich insight into the lives of young people in northern Ghana.
As a result of a generous monthly donation, we continue to support two children whose parents had been unable to care for them and who had moved into the Baare Chief’s compound. With help of CDF, they receive food, shelter access schooling and health care.
Related Party Disclosures
In managing the Talensi Community Development Foundation, Trustees receive no remuneration and have made no claims for travel or any other expenses.
This includes travel to Ghana to support investment of the Foundations monies.

Public Benefit
In selecting education as focus of investment, the Trustees had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. They have been assured through visits by Trustees, photographs, and communication with the headmasters of the different schools and Baare Chief, that the investment is benefiting young people from across the Talensi District.
