Talensi Community Development Foundation Trustees’ Annual Report
Period: 1[st] January 2022 to 31[st] December 2022 Registration Number: 1174922
Statement from the Chair
Welcome to the 2022 Annual Report for the Talensi Community Development Foundation. We were pleased to welcome two new Trustees, Melanie Dafforn and Ieuan Crowe and Nicholas Parker has taken the position of Treasurer.
Last year was one of our most successful for fundraising with £4,303 raised to invest in the area of benefit. During the year we spent £2,610 on projects to deliver our objectives and there are plans to complete the upgrading of classrooms, including the fitting of fans and ceilings in early in 2023.
During 2022, links with the Tongo Junior School were strengthened and we donated IT equipment to enhance the schools digital offering to pupils and establish a link with The Grange at the Royal Grammar School Worcester.
We also facilitated the donation of kit from the England Blind Cricket Team to the Gbeogo School for the Deaf in Tongo. The school serves pupils who are deaf from across the northern Ghana region including the Talensi District.
In November 2022, two Trustees visited the area and were able to see progress with different projects the CDF is supporting and helped the CDF develop links with key contacts.
Once again we are indebted to those who make donations to support our work and to the Royal Grammar School Worcester, who have made further donations of equipment to the schools in the Talensi District.

Objectives
The objectives of the Talensi CDF are to work with and support the Talensi community to:
-
i. ensue all young people can access and benefit from training and education
-
ii. create opportunities for employment for all
-
iii. provide financial and other assistance for the maintenance, improvement and provision of public amenities.
-
iv. promote health and wellbeing
In delivering these activities, the Foundation invests in projects that are supported by the community and to sustainably harness and manage the natural resources of the area to help those facing hardship and for mutual benefit.
The Foundation’s final objective is to promote and support dialogue between the Talensi community and others in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, to share learning and bring mutual charitable benefits. This may be through links between schools, health practitioners, business, and community groups.
Activities and Achievements
The focus of the CDF remains on improving educational outcomes for young people. This is achieved by providing the resources to improve the learning environment and shipping donations of equipment.
As we have established links between the Tongo Senior High School and Junior School to the Royal Grammar School Worcester, we have purchased 4G Wi-Fi hubs and data so pupils can talk to each other online and pupils can use the donated iPads to access the internet.
With the iPads, pupils are accessing the internet and a far wider range of information to support their learning and development. The links with UK schools is equally beneficial to UK pupils as it gives them a rich insight into the lives of young people in a developing country and the responsibilities they take on at a young age.
In 2022, as the result of regular donations, we are supporting two young people whose parent had been unable to care for them. They had moved into the Baare Chief’s Compound where they receive food and shelter. The CDF are paying for school uniforms, a bike to travel to school, health costs and clothes. The CDF also sponsored a young woman to complete her nursing studies after her family were unable to pay fees after their crops had failed.
Related Party Disclosures
In managing the Talensi Community Development Foundation, Trustees receive no remuneration and have made no claims for travel or any other expenses.

Public Benefit
In selecting Education as focus of investment, the Trustees had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. They have been assured through visits by Trustees, photographs and communication with the headmasters of the different schools and Baare Chief, that the investment is benefiting young people from across the Talensi District. It is achieving this by improving their prospects to secure, knowledge, life skills and pathway to improved financial independence.
Financial Review
During the financial year 2022 the turnover of the charity was £4,303 (£3,440) This was received from donations to the foundation, tax relief on donations and sponsored links on www.smile.amazon.com and Give as you Live.
During 2022 the Foundation spent £2,722 (£4,545) in delivering its objectives. This included shipping IT Equipment, and other donated goods, refurbishing classrooms, providing secure storage for IT equipment and the purchase of data for the schools to access the internet.
The CDF also support two young people whose parents had been unable to care for them and a young woman to complete her nursing studies.
Part of the funds remaining in the bank account will be used to complete the upgrading of classrooms in early 2023.
At the end of the year the CDF held £1,756 cash in its bank account.
