## **The Playhouse Theatre Northampton (Charity Number 1174920)** ## **Annual Report for September 2022 to August 2023** Unlike the reports for the previous two years, I am delighted to be able to open this report by saying that the action at The Playhouse Theatre during this year has been mainly on the stage. We continue to welcome hire of the facilities providing it does not interfere with in house productions and we have sufficient volunteers available. The accounts show the return of substantial income from the sale of tickets and the operation of the bar with the theatre open on a regular basis for our own productions and performances by third parties. There was a profit in the year of almost £7,000 leaving a healthy balance of over £41,000 at the end of the year. There is, however, a long list of projects requiring further expenditure on the building and the equipment in it, some of which will require external funding. Of particular note is the hire to the University of Northampton for 2 weeks in March when their drama students used the venue to rehearse and then perform productions written by them. They also gave their students studying Events Management the opportunity to use their skills. This activity not only brought a lot of young people and their parents to the venue but also helped us to meet our charitable objects with regard to education in the dramatic arts. A further booking next year is under discussion. As usual the venue has been reliant on the efforts of numerous volunteers all enabling the theatre to function. Particular thanks go to all the members of the Management Committee who have between carried out or arranged the multitude of tasks required in order to operate the theatre. With the exception of Philip Welsh the trustees have been able to appoint the committee to continue their good work into the current season. With thanks for all that he has done for the theatre over the years we wish Philip a speedy return to good health. We currently have six trustees but unfortunately due to ill health Mike Bond who was appointed by the trustees as our Chair at this time last year has been unable to carry out those duties. In the meantime, I have returned to that role on a temporary basis keeping the seat of the Chair warm for him. We wish Mike a speedy recovery and return to some of his roles at the theatre. Every year a third of the Board are required to resign but can offer themselves for re-election this year Debby de Haes and Gary Holland are seeking reelection. As always, the current volunteers would welcome assistance from any other members, able to offer some of their time to enable the theatre to continue to meet the needs of the community that it serves.
