PETERSFIELD LIONS CLUB TRUSTEE REPORT
01/07/23-30/06/24 for CHARITY COMMISSION
Petersfield Lions Club have supported individual people and other charitable bodies, primarily in the Petersfield area and to the Lions International Foundation, primarily for disaster relief.
The funds donated are the result of holding events, tombola stalls and public donations. All decisions made by the Club regarding financing grants are voted on by members and ratified by trustees.
HEALTH
The Club organised a Prostate Cancer Awareness and Testing Day in April 2023. 340 men were tested, 23 of which were advised to refer themselves to their G.P. for further investigation. Members also marshalled at a local sponsored walk, raising funds for Prostate Cancer U.K.
The Club financed physiotherapy for a local child by donating over £2,000, some of which was raised by holding a quiz night.
Members assisted with marshalling at Covid 19 and Flu vaccinations, supporting the local Health Service.
The Club donated money, contributing toward the cost of a defibrillator.
The Club raised money and supported Brain Tumour Research.
The Club financed and distributed a Message in a Bottle and Wallet, detailing prescriptions taken and contact numbers to be used in an emergency
Over £600 was donated to Naomi House, a charity, carrying out end of life care and bereavement services. The money was raised by holding a swishing party.
Other organisations supported were Headway(brain injury), The Cancer Trust, Stroke Association, Fitzroy House (a charity supporting disabled people).
SIGHT.
Used spectacles are collected in the area and some members are involved in sorting and grading for distribution in third world countries.
POVERTY
Assistance has been given locally to the local Food Bank by shopping and donations.
Money has been made available for those people who need help with their energy bills.
Some local families have been supported by a meat voucher scheme, in conjunction with a local butcher at Christmas and Easter, totalling £1500.
Vouchers were also provided to provide school clothing. Both of these projects were carried out liaising with Home Start (a family charity).
YOUTH
Donations were made to a The Kings Arms, who support young people in the year groups 7-11 who need support. Special attention is given to young carers. The Club provided over £1,000 of funding
The Club supported Lions International Peace Poster competition. An arts project.
Other projects supported were.
Providing equipment for a local Free Shop who re-cycle food from supermarket, supporting the local radio, taking children to Marwell Zoo, Age Concern Christmas Party and Cancer Trust.
Any person wishing to receive some help, completed an application, which was reviewed by a committee, discussed by members and voted on.
In summary, the Club have continued, as in previous years complied with our Objects and Purposes and to serve the Community.
