Introduction
Friends of the Golden Lion are a group of volunteers and professionals working towards restoring and reopening the Golden Lion, a 16th Century timber-frame building located in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham.
Friends of the Golden Lion is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 25[th] September 2017 with charity registration number 1174816. The governing document is our constitution based closely on the Charity Commission ‘Foundation’ Model Constitution.
The registered address is: 15 Cornerstone, Woodbridge Road, Moseley, Birmingham. B13 8EN.
This report covers the 12-month period from 1 Jan to 31 December 2023.
Charity Objects
The objectives of the charity are:

To advance heritage for the public by preserving and protecting the history, architecture and construction of the 16th century building known as The Golden Lion, situated in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham.

To advance the education of the public by preserving and promoting the history of The Golden Lion and encouraging historical research and interest in matters connected to the preservation of the building.

To work together with the local authority, charitable and not-for-profit organisations to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the public, without distinction of age, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, nationality, race, religion, sexual identity and orientation or political or other opinions.
Trustees
The charity has three trustees: Jonathan Smith (chair), Mark Tolley (treasurer) and Louisa Horth. There were no additions or resignations during the year. Trustees are recruited and appointed in line with the guidance in our constitution.
Public Benefit
In planning our activities, the Trustees have given due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

No activity
Due to a combination of Brexit followed by the Covid-19 pandemic Friends of the Golden Lion undertook no activity in 2023. There was no fundraising, no spending, no committee meetings and no volunteer events.
