Campaigning & Advocacy work this lies at the core of what we do. We support local actors in southern Africa and lobby key stakeholders in the UK to push for change and secure rights, equality and development for the region.Advancing education of the public on Southern Africa, by highlighting the causes of underdevelopment, poverty and conflict and exposing the destructive legacies of apartheid
Objects: 3. Objects The objects of the CIO are for the public benefit:3.1 to promote human rights (as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent United Nations conventions and declarations) in southern Africa by:3.1.1 monitoring abuses of human rights;3.1.2 obtaining redress for the victims of human rights abuse;3.1.3 relieving need among the victims of human rights abuse;3.1.4 research into human rights issues;3.1.5 educating the public about human rights;3.1.6 commenting on proposed human rights legislation;3.1.7 raising awareness of human rights issues;3.1.8 promoting public support for human rights;3.1.9 promoting respect for human rights among individuals and corporations;3.1.10 international advocacy of human rights, through international protocols such as the UN declaration and treaty and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) (1979);3.1.11 eliminating infringements of human rights.3.2 the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged groups in southern Africa; particularly addressing the specific disadvantages faced by African women in the region or those from the region in the UK.3.3 to promote public education and research on the range of issues which contribute to the relief and eradication of poverty and the advancement of human rights, equality for women and diversity in southern Africa, particularly with respect to the nature, causes and effects of poverty, social inequity, legal or human rights violations, conflict and environmental degradation.3.4 to promote cultural exchange and development between people from and in the region and people in the UK, including closer co-operation between organisations and the formation of new alliances.
