THE SUMMER SCHOOL FOR PIANISTS

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2023

The Trustees present their report for the year ended 31 October 2023.

1 . Reference and Administrative Details

Registered charity number 1174674 Registered address 60 Waddington Way London SE19 3XJ Trustees C W Hyde M J Phillips G Mathers

Trustees are appointed by the Board of Trustees for fixed three-year terms. Trustees put themselves forward for re-appointment upon expiry of their existing term

The organisation is managed by a group of individuals collectively known as Artistic Directors. At the end of the year the Artistic Directors were as follows:-

Karl Lutchmayer Christine Stevenson

2. Constitution & Objects

The object of the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) is to promote, improve and advance public music education, by the provision of piano masterclasses, concerts and in other such ways as the CIO, through its trustees, shall determine.

The Trustees have due regard to guidance published by the Charity Commission on Public benefit.

3. Financial Review and Plans for Future Period

The Trustees have a policy of charging a fee sufficient to cover the costs of the event. Any surplus is held towards future events.

During the current year there was an excess of receipts over payments of £4,824 (2022: Excess of receipts over payments £8,571).

The event is now firmly re-established in its standard in-person format, following disruption in previous years from the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2023 event represented the second year of business as usual following the online event held during the pandemic.

The event was well attended and received exceptionally good feedback from participants.

The trustees have considered a period of 12 months from the date of approval of the accounts and consider the CIO has adequate resources to continue in operational existence and therefore continue to prepare the accounts on a going concern basis.

4. Reserves Policy

The trustees have a policy of ensuring that sufficient funds are available to meet the expenditure required in order to host the event in any given year, and annual overheads, and retaining a surplus towards hosting the event in following years.

The Trustees and Artistic Directors have examined the major strategic business and operational risks which the organisation faces and confirm that systems have been established to enable regular reports to be produced so that the necessary steps can be taken to lessen these risks.

6. Achievements and Performance

During the year, the event was held on 12 August to 18 August 2023.

The results of the year are shown on page 4 of these accounts.

7. Trustees’ Responsibilities

The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the organisation and to enable it to ensure that the financial statements comply with the organisations rules. They have general responsibility for taking reasonable steps to safeguard the assets of the organisation and to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
