of the UK National U3A organisation.
These values are captured in “Learn, Laugh,
Live” where activities targeting education for the
retired community are actively encouraged.| |Summary of the main

1.19|St Austell carries this out by operating 41
Interest Groups. They are accessed by the local
community primarily at our rented suite of
meeting rooms in St Austell.
A smaller number of groups meet at other
commercial premises more suited to the needs
of the group such as dancing.
There is a good mix of both physically active
interest groups such as Tai Chi and Line Dancing;
and groups which are easily accessible to those
with mobility issues. Book Clubs are particularly
popular, and the high numbers expressing
interest means that four groups are now
running.
More intellectually demanding groups such as
Bridge, Mah Jong and languages are successful;
and for the able bodied there are both short
walk and long walking groups.

Trelissick| |||Painting, singing, pottery, drama, and ukulele
groups address the needs of artistically inclined
members.
Currently, the sciences are not addressed, but
three new groups have been created this year, a
fourth is being incubated, and it is anticipated
that further groups will be created as potential
group leaders step forward.
St Austell U3A recognises the issues faced by
older people who live on their own and a new
Interest Group has been set up specifically to
address this.
New groups often get created through the
members’ coffee morning networking activities
that take place twice a month, and through
presentations by specialists in their field which
have included:

The Wonderful World of Herbs and Spices
The Work of Barnados
The History of China Clay in Cornwall
The Cornwall Wildlife Trust
The Work of the Friends of the Royal Cornwall
Hospital
The Treasures of Lanhydrock
Shelter Box
Wine Group events included:
Spanish wine with food pairing
Wine Quiz night
Visit to local vineyard
Visits to local wine merchants
Summer Garden Party
The Theatre Group have enjoyed a variety of
outings including:
