Ob'ectives and activities
TAR

To protect and promote the health of people residing permanently or
temporarily in the United Kingdom who are seriously or terminally ill by
the provision of funds to charitable organisations dedicated to the
ongoing care and wellbeing of such persons in the interests of social
welfare with a view to improving their conditions of life.
Summary of the objects of the
charity set out in its
governing document
In planning activities, we kept in mind the Charity Commission's guidance
on public benefit at our trustee meetings.
The Sunseeker London Charitable Trust (SLCT) carries out its purpose
by supporting existing charities that meet the charitable objective. The
board of trustees exercise their discretion when assessing formal
applications from existing charities, considering which applicants best
further the SLCT objectives giving the greatest public benefit and
considering the effectiveness of the project.
The focus of our activities this year remains on supporting existing
charities that share the same ethos to further the purpose of the SLCT.
SSLCT have ongoing monthly meetings with the Breast Can￿r charity to
help raise awareness of younger patients conducting regular self-
examinations. We are in discussions and looking at funding a programme
on how to bring a message to future patients to avoid late detection. 10-
15 years ago, breast cancer was more commonly found in the 45 plus
age group, however nowadays, patients from the age of 30 are receiving
diagnoses and treatment. The need to raise awareness especially for
younger women is critical and early detection through self-examinations
is the most effective way.
Summary of the main
activities undertaken for the
public benefit in relation to
these objects (include within
this section the statutory
declaration that trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit)
The planned revival of a programme named 'Fabulous & Beautiful, at the
Breast Cancer Charity to give patients confidence with focus on hair,
beauty & exercise. We have learnt that exercise plays a key role in
patient recovery both physically and mentally.
A Grant of £4,108.00 was awarded to the Starlight Children's Foundation.
Towards the funding for proactively identifying to hospital in deprived
areas and provide them with play resources to support in the region of
600 children in each.
After regular discussions with Teens Unite focusing upon a Respite
Centre for Teenagers with Cancer, The planning applications for the
Respite Centre has teen approved by the Council and the team has
moved in to prepare the ￿ntre ready for use. The improvement in
accommodation for Teens Unite has allowed them to move from
Broxbourne to a much more modern facility. Workshops are planned for
the centre and it will be an amazing space for young people to attend.
