To preserve for the benefit of the public, the historical, architectural and constructional heritage of the Great Chishill Windmill and to advance the education of the public in all aspects of its history and use in particular but not exclusively by:

(a) repairing, refurbishing and restoring the windmill to sound condition and working order.

and

(b) conserving and maintaining the restored mill as a museum and heritage centre open to the public.

Management

Great Chishill Windmill Trust (GCWT) is managed by the Trustees through regular Trustee meetings and specific Trustee roles (Fundraising HH / JW), Guiding (NH), Technical (NP), Finance (HH / JG) and Historical Support

(DMcK)). Each of these Trustee roles is further supported by individuals from approximately 20 volunteers.

New Trustees are recruited based upon their interest and enthusiasm to support the objectives of the GCWT. Trustees are most usually individuals who live in a village close to the windmill and who have been involved in GCWT activities for a number of years and hence are known to existing Trustees.

Activities / Fundraising in 2022 / 2023

GCWT organised or participated in a number of events in 2022 / 2023 for the purposes of fund raising and to publicise the windmill to the wider public. These included:

Stall at Christmas Craft Fair (£900 raised) Organised snowdrop viewing (£900 raised) Quiz night (£500 raised)

Guided tours every other Sunday between April and September (donations welcomed and these average approximately £100 / Sunday)

The GCWT received a grant from Heydon Parish Council of £100.

The GCWT sells various windmill related merchandise and has a number of supporters who donate via standing orders.

Expenditure

In addition to various insurances the GCWT has spent money on maintaining the windmill including site grass cutting, greasing the windmill workings and washing the mill. The GCWT invested in such items as hard hats, signage and fire extinguishers to protect individuals visiting the mill.

The GCWT maintains a fund in anticipation of future more significant costs to maintain the windmill.

Benefit of the GCWT activities

The GCWT objectives have been met during the year such that the windmill can be enjoyed by the public. In addition to enjoyment of the site (picnics, photography etc) the history, workmanship and historical aspects of the windmill has been shared.
