CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

AGM’S are always a time for thank you’s, and so I will endeavour to remember all the things for which I need to offer thanks. It has been a good year for us with a number of fund raisers, donations and grants coming to us making us secure and so this year we have felt it is not necessary to push the fund raising too much. Jane Duckworth in her report will highlight the funds received but I would like to mention the surprise that Eileen Milligan left us £5K which is amazing and we hope to organise a trophy in her name. Also we raised a staggering £6K at the sponsored ride in September.

Riding has been carried out very much back to normal. I feel we have established good relations with all our schools, resulting in their sending riders who have challenged us but results very rewarding. With Faye’s experience and the patience of the volunteers progress was shown. we held picnic days last summer in place of the former away days. They took the form of some horse care, a short ride before lunch and then a treasure hunt in the field behind the stables which was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved. For the evening riders, we held the gymkhana inclusively with Seaview pony club riders, which again, was greatly enjoyed. we are planning to do the same again this summer. We are fortunate to have great relations with all the schools who send riders.

We sadly said goodbye to Ryan just before Easter. Although we have Rufus, he is not yet being used on a regular basis by Seaview and so until he is, we will have to wait to use him. Troy has been added to the “fleet” but unfortunately Daniel is too tall to ride him and so has been unable to continue riding.

Thursday evening riding has been very well attended but we do have to stand down some riders in favour of others because we have a waiting list. The main consideration in offering places to riders is to do with allocation of ponies.

Alison and Natalie organised a training welcome evening at the beginning of the year to recruit more volunteers, which was very well attended. As a result we have some new helpers, and some lapsed ones returned which is very encouraging.

As some of you are aware, RDA National Office is in disarray. However, after webinar consultation sessions, we were not really clearly informed of the issues. We have been assured that RDA is financially secure but it is worth mentioning that because each group has their own charity number and manage ourselves, including our finances, so we are to a certain extent operationally independent. Regional Chair, Pauline Harrison is keeping us as informed and up to date as she is aware.

Thanks to Barrow Island for hosting us here this evening. we are very grateful, and I need to mention how much we appreciate the enthusiasm they show!

All our volunteers deserve grateful thanks for giving us their time. Without volunteers, we could not offer riding.

A huge thank you to Seaview, Claire, Faye and all the staff but the biggest thank you must go to the ponies for their wonderful patience and tolerance.

Hilary Stephenson from Sandside has very kindly agreed to give us a presentation on how RDA can help riders with disabilities which we will, I know, find very enlightening.

Inde endent Examiner's Re ort t() the Trustees of FURNESS GROUP RIDING FOR THE DISABLED ASSOCIATION Re istered Charit No 1174566 I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2023. Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider tliat an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act)) and that an independent examination is requii'ed. It is my responsibility to= examine the accounts under Section 145 of the Charities Act to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (urider Section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act)" and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of the independent examinerfs report My examination was carrted out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statements below. Independent examiner's statempnt In connection with my examinatiori, no matter has come to my attention: (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements to keep accounting recclrds in accordance with Section 130 of ', Charities Act; to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the acc()unting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met. or (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of ttrie accounts to be reached.
